I am having some problems with my radio. I just installed a after market radio that has been in 2 other vehicles. the radio worked perfectly fine in them, but for some reason it is not working properly in the new vehicle. It’s a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT. I have all the wires connected from the deck to the wiring harness except for a brownish color wire that Kenwood says is a mute wire. on the harness the Power antenna and amp wires are not connected to anything. My problem is, I don’t have any sound. The people at Kenwood said that the internal amp that is in the vehicle needs to be connected to the Power control wire coming from the deck. Now I disconnected 4 clips off the factory radio. The 2 that are connected to the speacker wires, the power wires and the ground. There is one that was acting as another ground and was connected to the back of the radio. As for the forth clip there is a White/Black, and a purple wire. Could these two wires be the internal amp? Even if they are it still doesn’t explain why there is no sound. The people at Kenwood tried to say that I wired it wrong. It’s hard to mess up the wiring when the aftermarket wire harness has the same color wires as the aftermarket deck. Can you help me out with this? Thanks!!
I have the same vehicle with the infinity speaker system and I decided to upgrade to an aftermarket radio when I hooked everything up it all worked but i got no sound out of my speakers and it took me a while to figure why they were not working. Have you tried hooking up the blue/white power antena wire to the blue/white remote amp turn on wire on the after market wiring harness? once I did that my speakers started working again.
I also have a Durango with the infinity system and heard that if you try to install aftermaket speaker, you have to do a amp bypass. I know that Best Buy does the amp bypass for $60. The guy also suggested that I change the head unit b/c the factory head unit will not put out enough power b/c of the amp is doing all the work.

I have the infinity system too and i had to replace all 4 speakers in my durango, and now the new infinity’s i bought, the bass sounds bad. Please help??? Do i need a new amp or should the stock amp be able to handle the new speakers????

i am having some problems with getting sound to come out of the speakers on a 2000 dodge durango.it has a a stock amp and i was wondering if u can loop it or something to get sound to come out.
Justin, your Dodge Durango may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. I am putting new speakers in the front doors of a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT Plus with Infinity sytem. For each door, once I cut into the stock wiring harness, there is a solid color wire to each speaker and also the same color with a stripe. Obviously one of these is the positive and one is the negative… but which one is which?!?! Can anyone tell me whether the stripey wire is the pos or the neg?!?
I try to put in a aftermarket radio and ever since its been in my radio does not keep the setting that I set. Can someone please help me
Eddrick, you may have mixed up the battery constant and accessory switched wires. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your car is on. Check your wiring and make sure the correct radio wires are hooked up to the correct wires on your factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck.

So i have a 2000 dodge durango and i hooked a sony explode head unit in it. I bought a wiring kit and hooked it up. The radio works just fine i hear the stations coming in, but when i put a cd in no sound comes out. i put my cd player in my dodge avenger and it played cd’s just fine, does this have anything to do with the built in amp? There was a clip on the left side of the built in radio as if you were looking at it from the front, it those looked some what like speaker wires but i had nowhere to put them. Can you help me with this?

Wayde, first some background. Almost all aftermarket radios have an antenna turn-on wire and an amplifier turn-on wire. The antenna turn-on wire is used to turn on powered antennas. Keep in mind, the antenna turn-on wire isn’t always needed because some cars come with non-powered antennas. The amplifier turn-on wire is used to turn on a factory or aftermarket amplifier. If this wire is not hooked up on vehicle that requires the factory amplifier to be turned on, then you will not get any audio output. With that said, it sounds like your aftermarket radio antenna turn-on wire is hooked up to your factory amplifier turn-on wire. The antenna turn-on wire is only activated when the FM or AM tuner is being used. That’s why you get audio output when the FM or AM tuner is played but no audio output when a CD is played. Our advise is to remove the aftermarket antenna turn-on wire from your factory amp turn-on wire and instead hook up the accessory switched 12v+ wire to your factory amp turn-on wire. That way your factory amplifier is on whenever your 2000 Dodge Durango ignition is on and off whenever your 2000 Dodge Durango ignition is off. This will enable your amplifier to be on whenever your radio on regardless of CD or tuner. Just make sure to run an in-line 1-amp fuse on the wire going from the switched 12v+ wire to the factory amplifier turn-on wire. If you have never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Hey everyone, I have followed this wiring diagram to hook up a new JVC, or JBL ( I don’t remember off the top of my head) head unit into my 2000 durango, but I have ran into a problem along the way. So I have the 12V constant hooked up to the 12V constant wire coming from my head unit, and the same with the switched 12V “AKA” ACC. When I power the car on, my head unit powers up for two or three seconds before shutting down again… I am using the black and tan wire that was originally hooked up to the outside case of the stock head unit, is this the proper ground? If so, does anybody else have any ideas as to what could be causing this problem? Thanks guys!
On the 2000 Durango wiring harness there are 2 orange wires labeled Illuminator and dimmer. Where do you connect these wires?

I have a 2004 Durango with the Infinity system? It already comes with a 8in. Subwoofer but I was wondering if the amp was capable of pushing a 10in. Subwoofer. The 8in subwoofer broke jus seeing if I can put a lil more bump?

Beau, most door panel removals can be done with a Phillips screwdriver and door trim removal tools. Just look for screws at the edge of the door panel, near the door handle or inside the door pull. Once you remove all the screws or plastic tabs, you should be able to use the door trim removal tools to pull the door panel off with ease. Hope this helps. have a 2000 dodge durango…factory radio clicks on and off when its on. i installed sony cd player (correctly) and its doing same thing…now it doesnt come on. put factory back in and still nothing. no blown fuse…everything in durango works(horn…a/c…heat…e.t.c.)
Rickey, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your fuses are good, check your after market radio connections behind your head unit. If all your wire connections are good, take a look at your battery terminals wires. Sometimes when your 2000 Dodge Durango battery wire terminals are not in full contact with battery posts because of corrosion, your radio could cut in and out. Try removing your battery wire terminals from the battery, clean them with a battery terminal cleaner and re-install. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2000 Dodge Durango radio troubleshooting.
