  1. DJ, yes you can hook up your an amplifier and subwoofer to your stock stereo. You will need some aftermarket electronics to hook up a subwoofer to your 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix factory stereo. You will need five components:

    1. Car Subwoofer
    2. Car Subwoofer Box to house your car subwoofer.
    3. Car Audio Amplifier that matches your subwoofer power needs and ohm rating.
    4. Car Amplifier Wiring Kit that can handle the power needs of your amplifier.
    5. RCA Line Out Converter to feed an audio signal from your factory radio to your aftermarket amplifier.

First run all your amplifier power from your car battery to where you plan on mounting your amplifier. Next, run your ground wire from your grounding point to your amplifier. Wire up the RCA Line Out Converter to the rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. Next, connect one end of your RCA jacks to the Line Out Converter and the other end of the RCA jacks to your amplifier. This will provide an audio signal to your after market amp. Lastly, connect your subwoofer to your after market amplifier using the speaker wire in the amplifier wiring kit. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix amplifier and subwoofer installation.

  2. I have the same question as IAN. I have an 2004 pontiac grand prix with the monsoon system. “when putting in new rear speakers since gm runs a positive and negative for highs and lows. would i put both positives and both negatives together since my new speaker is a 4 way and only has one neg and one positive tab or would i just run one of the freq set?” anyone?

  3. when putting in new rear speakers since gm runs a positive and negative for highs and lows. would i put both positives and both negatives together since my new speaker is a 4 way and only has one neg and one positive tab or would i just run one of the freq set?

  5. I’m trying to find out if the wiring for the 04 grand prix is the same as the 07. If not is there anyone that can tell me which wire is the constant and which one is the ground?

  6. I got a 04 grand prix… im trying to get a clarion head unit… i ordered the interface for the chimes and all that… need help on wiring the harness from the stereo to the interface and help will be much appreciated!

  7. I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, The right rear speaker isn’t working and when I started to follow the wiring FROM the speaker I found that it is connected to a small box which is snapped to the rear deck about 8 inches away from the speaker. This small box is not connected to anything else and has no other plugs on it thus meaning that the speaker is not hard wired to the sound system. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chuck

  8. AJ King, technically you could connect your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix is on and off whenever your 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

  9. I’m trying to install an aftermarket amp/subwoofers to my 05 Grand Prix GTP, factory deck. where is the best place to connect the lead wire from the aftermarket amp? Any correct information would be greatly appreciated.

  10. I was just analyzing the wiring behind my factory radio to ensure that I received the correct wiring harness to hook up my Pioneer radio. I noticed that there was another set of wires running into the factory unit. Are these special wires that need to be considered or are they just the wires that run to the radio controls on the steering wheel?

  11. Jason, some vehicles can play an MP3 player using the audio in cable but it may require some external module or special wiring. Unfortunately, we don’t have the specific information you’re looking for but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  12. I want to play my mp3 player in my car using an Audio In cable. Would it be possible to find an Audio In port on the back of my stereo? How difficult would it be to take the dash apart to get to the stereo? Thanks, Jason
