I recently purchased a 01/2004 Jetta Wagon GLS Tdi. It has an aftermarket Kenwood stereo in it, so I don’t know what factory was. The stereo works without the key in the ignition, you have to turn the stereo on or off by itself. I can’t locate the ignition switched 12v wire. There are 2 heavier factory Red/white stripe wires coming to the factory harness, the ground wire is brown. There are 2 orange wires, 1 with a green stripe, the other with a brown stripe, in the same section as the power supply wires. It would appear that all of the speaker ground wires are black, with the positives being brown, green, tan, and yellow. There is a 3rd section in the factory harness that is a blue plug, with 8 wires going into it. Can anyone help!?! Tyson

JT, you can wire the speakers directly from your head unit – or – you can find a working stock amplifier with plugs and splice everything together – or – you can find an aftermarket amp and splice everything together. The easiest route would be to wire everything directly from the head unit. Hope this helps. Good luck.
ok it seems that when i bought my 2003 GTI the stock amp had been removed an all plugs were cut i need to know how i can still run the stock speakers

Jeff, thanks for the car stereo information contribution.
i had the same problem. it took me a couple hours to find out exactly what was wrong. if you have the monsoon stereo, there is a software glitch that they were supposed to fix if you came in still under warranty. if it is not under warranty then you need to buy a new stereo, since the factory replacement is around $1000. it happened to a lot of VW owners. some say that if you remove #42 fuse for a couple minutes that it reboots the radio and starts working again. this did not work for me. the fuse trick was only temporary.
On my 2003 Jetta, the radio shows that it is on when you push the button and it displays one station. But it does not play, you cannot change stations, the red light does not blink, the CD player doesn’t work….absolutely nothing happens other than the display shows station 88.1. Any suggestions?
