  1. 2003 Grand Am. Replacing radio with Pioneer DEH-2400UB. Bought wiring adapter for ease of installation. Matched install instructions without success. As for the wire leading to the amp, there is no wire specifically noted to connect. Anyone with advice?

  2. Austin, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your fuses are good, we suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am radio troubleshooting.

  3. My friend was helping me install an after market radio and didn’t disconnect the neg of the battery. There was a quick pop because the wires were exposed. now i dont seem to be getting any power to the orange wire. I have a 2003 pontiac grand am. I checked the fuse block that is under t he hood and the fuse is good. What else should i check? is there a secondary in fuse?

  4. Reese, technically you could connect your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is on and off whenever your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is off. If you need a switched power source, run a wire to your steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier installation.

  5. Roger, technically you could connect your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is on and off whenever your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier install.

  6. I installed an after market stereo in my 2003 grand am there is no amp trigger wire on the stereo where do I hook the pink wire too?

  7. I have an 03 grand am with the monsoon system in it, and there’s 18 wires on the original plug, in which me and a friend had cut out thinking we could just hard wire it in there. I want to put the original harness back into the car, but can’t tell the difference on some of the wires due to the fact that some of them are the same color, or close to it. How can I tell the difference between them so that I can hook them back up?

  8. Jack, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am stereo or factory amplifier (if equipped) may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am radio troubleshooting.

  9. Ive just installed to new 6×9 speakers in the back cuz i thought the other two were blowen since the only sound they would make would be a very faint muffles sound . After installing the new 6×9 its still making the same sound . You can hear music but it very low and only treble . Is the a connectiong off somewhere else ??? Im starting to think maybe the other speakers were still working and that something else is wrong

  10. JC, run a primary wire to the steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness for your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am accessory wire power source. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am stereo installation.

  11. My son and I are installing a after market radio. I see here that the accessory wire will need to b e wired to a switched source. Can someone tell me at the interior fuse box or other fuse box would be the best place to wire to? It says 12 volt but the fuses all have amps. I wrapped a wire around the wiper fuse and got the radio to work. Is this the best source of power? I just don’t want to blow anything up. Thank for checking this post out. “Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: The radio harness does not provide a switched power source.”

  12. Just curious.. Can the stock radio from a 2003 Grand AM SE, be put into another GM car without the stock amp? Here is my situation.. I have a 2000 Oldsmobile Intruige that I had a really nice aftermarket radio professionally installed about 3 years ago. But now we are getting rid of the Intruige I liked the radio that came in it, stock and thought it would work better in my Grand AM.. as we are going to have the aftermarket installed in the new car. So I committed the cardinal sin and cut the wiring harnesses out of both cars.. I used your site to copy the wiring diagrams of the two radios and crossed referenced all the wires I could..

In the Grand AM.. I was able to get the Oldsmobile radio up and running.. (lighting took a bit because the diagrams don’t have a separate illumination wire listed in the Olds.. But she is up and rocking.. (like others. I don’t have the security chime anymore.. but that is kewl…

My problem is in the Olds.. I tried to wire the stock Grand Am radio into the Olds.. I get power to the unit.. although there is no lights or sound or clock.. but you can hear the cd motor spin when you hit the eject button.. The speaker wires are the same colors.. My problem is there are a pair of purple wires in the Grand Am wiring harness that I don’t know what they are.. like wise in the Olds wiring there are a set of (green/white.. brown/white.. and black/white wires taped together that aren’t explained in it’s wiring harness.. ) The black/white is a separate wire from the ground.. it’s another..

So now that I have written a book.. can any of you guru’s with some spare time and looking for a challenge look at the two car specs.. and maybe give me a idea of how to do this?? Do I need to take the amp out of the Grand Am or is there away around this?? Plus anyone that has a diagram with the complete wire setup would be greatfully appreciated.. Both the 2003 Grand AM and the 2000 Olds Intruige have wires in their harnesses that aren’t listed in the diagrams here..

Thanks a bunch guys!! You guys really rock here!!

  13. Zack, technically you could connect your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the brown wire in the ignition switch harness.

  14. I am about to install a sub woofer to my 03 grand am with monsoon stereo and i was wondering where i am supposed to connect the remote wire?

  15. Dan, run a primary wire to your steering wheel column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am stereo installation.

  16. hey im trying to install a aftermarket deck and for this deck to operate, the ignition wire must be connected to something, but in 03 grand ams there is no ignition wire to connect it to. I read earlier that i would have to run a wire to the fuse box to get switched power, where in the fuse box do i connect it?

  17. My wife and I just purchased a 2003 Pontiac Grand am GT with the monsoon stereo system. In order for me to take out the factory radio and replace it with an after market is there anything special i need to do? For example will i need to bypass and amp pr anything like that? Is there an alarm or anything I need to deal with? stuff like that.

  18. Greg, below find a photo of an automotive antenna wire plug:

    Car Antenna Wire Plug

If the plug in your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am looks something like the picture above then you are correct that your antenna wire is unplugged. If you remove your car radio and look at the rear, you will see a spot where your antenna wire should be plugged in. Hope this helps. Good luck with your antenna install.

  19. this is slightly off topic i bought my grand am used and i have terrible radio reception. looking down at the passenger side floor board i see a black wire that looks like it should plug into something. when i grab the wire the radio reception improves. i was told that this was the antenna wire but cannot find where it would plug in. any ideas?

  20. Freddy, the reason the person who deals in radio hook ups said you shouldn’t have cut the factory harness is because he was probably going to use a stereo wire harness adapter. It is still possible to wire an aftermarket radio. We advise you to take your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am to a reputable audio installation shop. Any reputable stereo installation shop should know how to hard wire an aftermarket stereo. If they don’t know how, we suggest you find a better shop. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Pontiac Grand Am stereo installation.

  21. i just recently bought a 2003 grand am. My friend and i tried putting in an after market stereo…but my friend cut the factory wires and now my interior lights don’t work…so i took it to a person who deals in radio hook ups and he told me that i should have never cut the wires, that i should have just bought the connectors or car stereo wiring harness. did my friend make a mistake by cutting off the part that goes into the factory stereo or can i still connect an after market radio?

  22. I have the same question as Jeff had earlier and I am going to add something else. On a 2003 Grand am why is there 4 wires to each rear speaker and if you put aftermarket speakers in do you need to hook up all four wires to the aftermarket speakers and if so how do you hook them up.

  23. Sean (Buzz, ModifiedLife and Ben also)
ModifiedLife is correct in that if your head is working but no sound you need to to send a signal to the speaker amp. Pink however is not the color, I`ve tried with blue, but doesnt works either. The line that goes to the amp from the factory plug is DARK GREEN (not blue) its to the right from gray.

  24. Joey, as much as we would like to help you, there would be no way to know what you removed or which wires were spliced so we don’t want to steer you in the wrong direction. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them clean up any problematic wiring. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  25. Hi, i had an Alpine cd player with subs, and a 600W pioneer amp in it, I recently took all of it out and put in my stock stereo so i can sell it, But now i get no power to my stock Monsoon cd player/cassette player, and there is a constant clicking noise and smoke coming from my steering column :( I can’t sell it like this. Any one got any suggestions? By the way it is a 2005 Grand Am SE 4 dr 3.4L.

  26. Cliff, most late model vehicles do not have rca outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter

When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. You must run the power to the battery. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  27. My son and I are going to try and install a subwoofer/amp combo to his 2003 Pontiac Grand AM that has teh Monsoon Radio. I was wondering if there are RCA jacks in the back of the in-dash stereo that can connect the sub-woofer to or should I just splice them into the speakers into the trunk? Also, is there an easy way to get switched power near the trunk or do I need to run the power all the way to the battery? Thanks!

  28. Installing new rear deck speakers to 03 Pontiac Grand Am GT. Why does it have 4 speaker wires going to 1 speaker(hot and ground on both sides of speaker)?

  29. Sean (Buzz and ModifiedLife also)
ModifiedLife is correct in that if your head is working but no sound you need to to send a signal to the speaker amp. Pink however is not the color. The line that goes to the amp from the factory plug is blue no stripe (not blue white stripe). This is nice because remote lines to turn on amps are blue also. i do not know what pink is but it does not power the amp. ModifiedLife is also correct about the accessory line to turn the head on when the car is on (not the power line to power when the car is off) this 12v line is black and on pin over from the also black ground. these black wires are in the opposite corner of the yellow power.

  30. Juan, you can either take your radio to a authorized repair facility or replace the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am factory stereo with an aftermarket radio. Hope this helps. Good luck with your radio replacement.

  31. i bought an aftermarket indasdh dvd player. I also purchased a wiring harness so not to cut the car’s wire. does the car have a power antenna? the harness attached to the cars wire doesn’t have one.

  32. Buzz, the pink trigger wire is used to turn on your factory amplifier. You should connect it to the amp trigger wire on your aftermarket radio. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  33. Marcelo, you may have mixed up the battery constant and accessory switched wires. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your car is on. Check your wiring and make sure the correct radio wires are hooked up to the correct wires on your factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  34. i recently installed a after market radio , and every time i turn on the car , all the radio presets, and clock resets itself

  35. Hova, it sounds like your radio lighting is faulty and needs replacement. Our advice would be to have your local Pontiac dealer check out your radio or have an authorized audio repair center take a look. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  36. The light for time and radio station is very dim, and goes out at times. How can I fix it? Should I just buy a new one?

  37. Sean, did you hook up for the amplifier turn on wire? The 2003 Pontiac Grand Am has a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on to get sound. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  38. okay im installing a new cd player into my grand am

these are the wires i have installed.

Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green

Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue

i’ve also got my Orange wire, (my power wire) and my ground wire hooked up.
