  1. My wife blew the subwoofer in 2009 on her 2001 Solara convertible. I brought to my local car audio guy and he informed me of the replacement cost. I asked him to just disconnect it and he did. It has worked fine now for over two years now and sound fine too. He just removed the cover under the convertible storgage area to get to it. Hope this helps :)

  2. I also have a 2001 Toyota Solara with a blown rear JBL subwoofer speaker and am in search of a replacement other than the $207 special order speaker from Toyota. Has anyone found a replacement for less? Thanks!

  3. Hello,
I have a 1999 Toyota Solara, and it HAD a JBL system in it. Unfortunately, before I bought it, someone hacked the radio out of it, and the wiring harnesses. I can find harnesses all over the internet, but they all state not compatable with the high performance or JBL system. Does anyone know where I can get a harness, or a wiring schematic to show me the JBL system. Near as I can tell there are a set of speakers in the rear window, and set in the lower doors and a small tweater in the upper doors. HELP!!!
    Thanks
    Ed

  4. Art, we have no information concerning whether or not the JBL system uses a solid state amp but as for the subwoofer speaker cone replacement, we would advise replacing your subwoofer speaker with an aftermarket one. It seems it would be more economical and provide you with better sound output and quality. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Toyota Solara speaker replacement.

  5. I have the same car and I just removed the back seat to get to the woofer. It is indeed a dual voice-coil 8″ 4.6 ohm 17 watt JBL speaker. The cone was torn.

Seems to be no economically viable alternative to buying the replacement part from toyota, except mailing the speaker away to a cone repair shop. There seem to be several out there.

But a question: anybody know whether i can run the stereo with the woofer disconnected? My understanding is that most solid state amps don’t care if they have a load connected or not. But i would hate to burn out something while i have the speaker removed.

  6. I have a 2001 Solara Convertable. It has a JBL system with an 8″ rear subwoofer and amplifier. The cheap paper did not hold up. It blew out. But good luck trying to find a replacement other than the same one from the dealer for $209.00. The speaker is VERY shallow, about 3.25″. Most other 8″ subwoofers area at least 4.” The speaker is a Dual Voice Coil. Which means that it is even harder to find. The big box electronics stores do not carry 8″ subwoofers anymore. So, what I’m looking for is an 8,” Dual Vocice Coil, 3.25″ mounting depth, subwoofer. Wish me luck. To top it off, the wiring from the amp is not marked. Anybody find a replacement yet?

  7. I have been able to get to my sub -woofer. LEt me know if you’re still having problems.

  8. Christine, it sounds like you may have blown your subwoofer. You may have to replace it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  9. the very rear speaker- I think the subwoofer-started making this loud crackling sound. I think there is a wire loose, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get to the speaker to fix it.I have a 2001 convertible. Can anyone help me with this???? thank you

  10. I dont know the size, but to get to them wasnt too hard. I blew my rear speakers out the other day, and decided to take them off. I havent gotten around to buying a new one yet, but just taking it off would probably take 30 to 60 minutes.

  11. can anyone tell me the size (6″ oval, 8″ round ???) of the 2001 Toyota Solara rear audio speakers, and how hard is it to physically get to them and replace them myself?
    Thank you.
