I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX with a stock AM/FM/Cassette/6-CD Changer. Love it . . . when it plays. Digital read-out works. I can hear the CD changer working. Problem is, it does not always work. Stereo repair says to “buy a new system” when all I want is for my “old” system to work! Love the sounds, WHEN it works. Alpine CD changer mounted in trunk. Honda stock AM/FM/Cassette. New fuses seemed to help, but it still goes out from time to time. HELP!
Have you checked your lines there my be an open wire along there somewhere which can cause the fuse to blow because power is going somewhere else trying to find ground causing fuse to get hot.
the front speakers in a honda accord 1996 LX are 6 1/2 and the rear speakers are 6 by 9
John, thanks for the car stereo speaker size contribution!
i have put in a new system in my car and want to know if there is a amp wire on the radio so i can use my amp on the stock radio or a way to rige it if anyone knows?
John, technically you could connect your amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever the car is on and off whenever your car is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
i plan on running a planet audio 2250 in my 1996 honda accord 4 door lx. where would you recommend me to ground it at.
Ben, most installer will ground wire on a factory bolt that is already on your car. If you can’t find a factory bolt then you can find some bare metal on your vehicle and use a ring terminal and self tapping screw (see below):
Hope this helps. Good luck.
The radio in my new – used 1996 ACCORD LX does not always go on when you turn the knob. Sometimes if you turn the knob on/off a few times it does go on.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is it a wiring issue or a faulty radio knob ?issue?
Robin, it sounds like your radio has a faulty knob or your radio is starting to go. Our advice is to replace it with an aftermarket stereo before your stock radio dies. Hope this helps. Good luck.
So I’ve got this subwoofer and amp sitting around and I’m thinking about mounting it in the trunk of my 1996 Honda Accord EX. I am left wondering about the “turn on” line…where to tap it and how to route it to the trunk. I thought I read somewhere that the EX model was pre-wired for an amp in the trunk…could it be true?
Thanks and nice site!

is there a way to get a direct out (RCA output etc) for the stock 1997 Honda Accord stereo? my tape player crapped out on me so now I have no way to hook up my ipod (i live in LA so FM transmitters don’t really work). I figure I’d probably have to get a new stereo but if there’s a way to avoid having to spend the money on a new one I’m all ears. Thanks!
Ben, most late model vehicles do not have rca outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:
Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter
When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I recently installed a new Sony xplod stereo in my 1996 Honda accord but have had some trouble with the wiring, whenever I turn the car off the stereo turns completely off so when I turn it back on again it is back to the original factory settings. Which wires do I need to switch so that everything doesn’t reset every time I turn the car off?
Ryan, you may have mixed up the battery constant and accessory switched wires. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your 1996 Honda Accord is on. Check your wiring and make sure the correct radio wires are hooked up to the correct wires on your factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your radio installation.
I have a cellular telephone in my 1996 Accord that I obviously don’t need anymore. I wouldn’t bother with it but I randomly turns on and off and I don’t want it draining my battery. Does anyone know where the harness is usually plugged into or where I might get that information?
I am trying to install a Sony head unit in a 96 ex wagon. I have verified that the power to the radio is there, but the unit will not come on. I have tried the reset and I checked all fuses. Any ideas?
Bobby, try powering up your Sony head unit using an external power source to verify that the Sony stereo is in good working condition. If your Sony head unit powers up, make sure your switch power source is wired correctly. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord Wagon stereo installation.
Can you please give me a complete stock 1995 honda accord ex radio wiring schematic? thank you.

Hey guys, I have a 1997 Honda Accord V6 automatic. The problems i am have are as follows. My radio will not come on, i took the same radio and plugged it into my 1996 GSR Integra and the radio worked perfect. I checked the fuse that is inside the car where i put my left foot at in the driver seat and i also checked under the hood of the car on the top left side on the (back up) radio fuse. Both fuses are good. Is there something else i can check to see why the plug isnt working? Thanks for any help you can give!
Eddie, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. Hope this helps. Good luck with troubleshooting your 1997 Honda Accord radio.
I just installed a new Pioneer DEH-12p in my 1996 Honda Accord and I noticed that it gets very hot on the back of the radio. Did I do something wrong during installation? Thanks
JP, most after market car radios have a small built-in amplifier in the back of the radio that does get warm. For the most part, it does get warm during normal car radio operation. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord car radio installation.
Does anyone know how to open the front door speaker panels on my 1996 Honda Accord? and does anyone know if 6-1/2″ speakers are the same as 6.5″ or 6×5″?
CM, most door panel removals can be done with a Phillips screwdriver and by simply pulling the door panel off by hand. Just look for screws at the edge of the door panel, near the door handle or inside the door pull. Once you remove all the screws or plastic tabs, you should be able to pull the door panel off with ease by lifting up and out. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord door panel removal.
cant get sound going we have power with acc but no sound
I recently bought a 1996 Honda Accord and it doesn’t have a CD player. Can i buy any stereo or are there certain measurements i should follow so that it fits correctly?
BB, you can choose any single DIN aftermarket radio to install into your 1996 Honda Accord:

After you choose your a car stereo with the features you want, you must purchase a 1996 Honda Accord stereo dash kit to retrofit your after market car radio into your dash:

If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord stereo installation.
Just installed an aftermarket stereo in my 96 accord. The face plate lights up, but the display does not, it also isn’t getting power to feed a cd in. The stereo came straight out of another car, so I know it works. The Honda does have a red wire with black strip (car radio illumination) that didn’t match up to any wires on the new stereo. Is this my problem, and if so, what do I hook it up to. Thanks!!
Replacing a stolen stereo from my 96′ Accord V6. There is no radio antenna wire to plug into the back of the new stereo system. I know the antenna itself is located in the rear window, but how does one connect that into the stereo system? The standard thick black cable with metal tip on the end, that is supposed to plug into the back of the stereo simply and easily is nowhere to be found….. What to do?
Scott, unfortunately you will have to replace your 1996 Honda Accord factory antenna cable coming from the antenna mast itself. Your factory antenna cable can be obtained from your local Honda dealer or maybe your local junkyard. Some vehicles may have an antenna cable that consists of two cables instead of one long cable. If that is the case with your 1996 Honda Accord then you may be able to save some money there. The cheaper alternative would be to purchase a universal antenna cable and run it from your radio location to the antenna itself. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord antenna cable replacement.
Trying to finish up an install of a Sony XPLOD car stereo in my 1996 Honda accord LX. I used a wiring harness adapter built for my model car, and the stereo seems to work fine, but every time I try to use the radio with the car’s antenna plugged in the stereo immediately shuts down (shorts out?). The plug (sort of like a smooth headphone plug) seems a bit wiggly when inserted in the new radio. Do I need an antenna plug adapter? This car shipped with an in-dash cell phone, which I simply unplugged and removed from the car. Those connections consisted of 2 small harness-type wire bundles, and a coaxial antenna. I also disconnected the trunk-mounted, six-disc CD changer from the back of the factory stereo. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
does the 1996 honda accord radio have RCA jacks, in the back of the radio?
Joel, most late model vehicles do not have aux output on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:
2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter
When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you install a line out converter, your rear speakers will still work properly. If you’ve never installed mobile audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced car audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1996 Honda Accord amp installation.
