  1. Hello, i have a 2008 prius with the JBL sound system. i want to put an aftermarket amplifier and subwoofer that i already have into this car, but cant figure out how to get the remote and RCA signal. any help? ive installed every sound system in every car ive ever had, but this one is different cuz im keeping the original deck. any help?

  2. Sean, technically you could connect your amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever the car is on and off whenever your car is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. As for the RCA signal, you would require a line out converter. This device takes two speaker wires and converts them to RCA outputs so you can provide an audio signal to your amp. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter

If you’ve never installed this type of car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  3. Thanks ModifiedLife! yea, that sounds do-able, but as i dont want to void the warranty by frying the existinig amplifier and head unit, i will try to find an experienced car audio specialist and suggest this technique if he has not done it a different way before. My only further question would be, where would i get the two speaker wire outputs to connect to the “line input converter”? Would i have to disconnect the existing subwoofer and use that speaker wire? thanks again for your help!

  4. Sean, you can use any audio signal wires to power the “line input converter”. Yes, you can use the wires that power your factory subwoofer. Keep in mind that the wires powering your factory subwoofer will more likely than not only provide a bass audio signal so you can only use those wires to power an aftermarket subwoofer and not full range speakers (with treble). Hope this helps. Good luck.

  5. Hello,
I have the Toyota Prius 2007 model with the factory p3808 toyota headunit on it.
I would like to know if I remove the p3808 hu and install a kenwood 2 din, will I lose climate control and etc. ? ?
Is it possible to install an aftermarket 2din hu on my car without losing various other functions. ?

  6. Hey hopefully someone could answer this question for me… I have a 2007 toyota prius touring with the jbl system. I am trying to get some info so that i can hook up some built-in DVD headrests. Ive heard there is an amp right under the seat i can do all the connecting through. If anyone knows whether this is true or not please let me know. Thanks
