  1. Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows what size radio is in a 2001 dodge ram 1500 pick up (double din or din 1/2)? Thanks.

  2. I can’t seem to find the factory amp in my 1993 dodge Dakota any ideas. The chiltons book doesn’t tell you and I would hate to rip my truck apart to find it. anyone know the 1993 dodge dakota factory amplifier location?

  3. I just bought a dual stereo for my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. I have all the wires connected just like the diagram above and I’m still not getting any power. I’ve installed many stereos and this one is by far the most confusing stereo yet. The only way I got power to the stereo was to have the constant 12v, ignition 12v, and both wires(constant and ignition) all connected as one but I know that is not a good idea so can somebody please help me. Thanks!

  4. I have the same issue as Brian above. 2001 Ram 1500 quad cab and I put a new Sony head unit in so I could use my ipod and xm. I powered the amp as recommended on this site to get it working (much appreciated!!!), but only the front door speakers and tweeters are working. No sound from the rear speakers. Any help is appreciated. anyone?

  5. I got a pioneer car stereo for my 98 dodge ram and i hooked everything up but the front speakers dont work. There were 2 orange, a brown and a blue wire on the harness kit that I did not use. Do these need to be tied in to any of the other color wires? anyone?

  6. Emma, double check ALL your automotive fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain automobiles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car stereo. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, under the steering column or under the hood. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 stereo troubleshooting.

  7. i have a 2006 dodge ram 1500 and trying to put original radio back in. it wont play and it reads no fuse. can you help? thanks.

  8. Libby, your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 may have a premium sound system. The premium sound system has a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Make sure your amplifier turn-on wire is wired to the light green wire in your factory stereo wire harness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 stereo installation.

  9. I’m positive i hooked up all of the wires correctly to my aftermarket stereo. Everything works except for the sound. It’s too late to take the stereo back and I’m just stuck with it. Any ideas on what’s wrong with the sound?

  10. My 1998 Dodge Quad Cab has rear speakers that don’t work. Any thoughts? Front speakers and piller mounted tweeters work fine, just nothing from the rear. How about a wiring diagram for my ’98. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

  11. Ryan, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your fuses are good, your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 stereo or factory amplifier (if equipped) may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 radio troubleshooting.

  12. when i installed a aftermarket stereo in my 01 dodge ram the wire for the constant power wire touched another wire and now i have no power on the pink wire. i checked the fuse and it is ok. but i have no power at all to the fuse and my dome lite does not work either. is there another fuse under the hood some where else. please HELP!!!

  13. hey i am wondering if any one knows what the tweeter wires are and color code for l r and + _for an 01 dodge ram 1500 quad cab and i am going to put in a 4ch amp to the door speakers. will it work when i run the wires from the amp output to the stock harness were the aftermarket radio and stock wires are? or how would u do it. i dont know if it has stock amp had work done before i got it. thanks

  14. chris the front are 6″x9″ and the back are 6″. You need to be careful and get slim speakers for the front because of the mounting depth for the window.

  15. the location of the factory amp on 1997 to 2001 dodge ram is on the passenger side of the truck below the dash. if you pull up the carpet by the door toward the firewall you should see.

  16. Scott, technically you could connect your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire (red/white). That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is on and off whenever your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is off. Just make sure to run an in-line 3-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire as your Alpine Flex4 manual suggests. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 amplifier install.

  17. I have used your wiring diagram for my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. I worry that my stereo may be wired differently, because it is the mexican model with a radio/tape head. the speakers are “Audiolatina” and use different colors at the speaker connection than what you have listed.

I wish to add an aftermarket amp, but I need to know if there is a low-amperage trigger wire (such as for the antenna or an aftermarket amp) on the head for the remote power line on the amp. If there is not, where else can I connect the remote power line? The flex4 manual suggests connecting a wire with a 3amp fuse to the ignition switch, but I don’t know which wire that would be. Do you have a suggestion?

  18. I have a 1999 Ram 2500 Diesel and I just installed an aftermarket eclipse stereo. I hooked up the light green remote wire and all seems to be working great EXCEPT I have no sound out of my door speakers?!? has anyone else had this problem. My tweeters up front are working great but nothing from my doors.

  19. I need the location of the factory amp and is there a crossover for the front speakers. there is one speaker in the front door and a twiter in the pillar, as well as the location of the crossover. This is for a 2001 dodge ram with the infinity system.

  20. I have a 1995 dodge ram 1500, I’m have trouble with my aftermarket radio. I installed it and work fine when I have the ignition key turn back, but when I start the truck the radio starts acting up…it start to like lose volume even when the volume is up on the radio or like the speakers will shut off but the radio is still on. Can anyone help? Did I hook something up wrong? Or how can I fix this?

  21. Jason, most late model vehicles do not have inputs to feed an mp3 audio signal to your factory stereo. You would have to install automotive auxiliary input adapter. An automotive auxiliary input adapter will allow you to input any mp3 player or portable music player into your factory radio. Here is the adapter you will need:

Auxiliary Input Adapter for 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Dodge Ram aux input adapter installation.

  22. I have a 2002 Doge 1500 with factory CD player. not the high end audio system. I would like to connect my mp3 via an Aux input. Does this radio have that capability? Maybe hardwiring in the jack to then wire harness? thanks, Jason.

  23. I recently got a 2001 Ram 1500 Regular Cab. Every speaker size I see is for the ext. cab, and they are 6 x 9’s and 5 1/4’s. Are these the same size for the regular cab? I also was wondering what size Dim head unit can fit into the truck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  24. Trying to install a Pioneer Satelite Ready Radio in a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. We are adding this radio with the factory radio still installed., by splicing into the speaker wires. We have everything but volume. What are we doing wrong? Thanks, Tom.

  25. I am trying to locate the placement of my factory amp or amps in my 2006 Dodge Ram( Infinity Series), I want to add a sub-woofer and would like to tap into one of the factory amps but I can’t seem to find it.

  26. I’m searching for a good hands free blue tooth radio to replace the 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 stock infinity system. There are a pair of 2 inch grills that I’ve always thought were separate tweeters on the upper door jam of each side. After reading here a bit I no longer think they are and wonder if that would be a good place for an external mic. I do like to play music from an mp3 player so I’m considering the Sony MEX-BT5700U as it comes with an external mic. Any recommendations for BT radio and external mic location? Also a good matching speaker set recommendation would be welcome.

  27. Thomas Grannemann

If you have no sound with a new unit, its because you need too turn on your factory amp. The rem wire on the new unit is not strong enough for the job, try taking the blue wire on your new wire harness and jumping it to the red power wire. Works every time.

  28. i bought some aftermarket speakers (Alpine) to replace the stock infinity’s in the front doors. Well i saw that they have a ton of wires connected to a black box, and that connected to the stock speakers. I’m just wondering what to with the black piece and all those wires cause it won’t mount to the aftermarket speakers as it did to the stock ones?

  29. Speaker sizes on my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 extended cab are:

    Front Speakers: 6″ x 9″
    Rear Speakers: 5 1/4″

These are door speakers and I suspect all models will be the same as they all have the same radio options.

  30. Eddy, When you wired this up did you use a wire harness or no? Also did you get the steering wheel controls to work and if so how did you wire that in?

  31. My ’01 ram apparently has the “premium” (infinity?) sound system, so I found out when these didn’t quite match up. All the speaker connections are the same as mentioned here, the differences are in the battery and ignition power lines. Also there is an amp trigger wire you must hook up, or you’ll get no sound at all. My Haynes manual didn’t have the radio pinouts, so I purchased a diagram for 6 bucks (which I subsequently found for free on another website – doh), and it worked like a charm. Tunes!

There is also a small white connector with two wires, (Violet/Brown & White/Black) – this is the interface for the steering wheel radio controls.

  32. Im having a similar problem as most of these people are. I get audio from the aftermarket radio but nothing from the cd player or aux input, i have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. Normally when you buy the wiring harness if there is a factory amp installed you have to purchase another wiring harness just for that amp, Dodge is killing me with this one, i have installed many car stereos and this is by far the worst i have come across.

  33. Victor, your 1998 dodge ram may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  34. Brad, some radios have a security feature that is activated when the radio is removed from the car or when the radio loses power. You need to enter the correct code to unlock the radio. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  35. Kevin, your 2001 dodge ram 1500 may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  36. I’m trying to install an after market cd player in my ’01 Dodge Ram 1500 and when I hooked it up, it did not work. I double checked the connections and everything was fine. I took a test light to the wires and found that both the positive and negative speaker wires have power. Any reason for this? A friend said it’s because of the factory amp that’s installed in the truck but I don’t know how to fix it.

  37. I would like to know what are the stock speaker size in a 2001 dodge ram 1500 ext. cab, I have two in the front doors and two in the rear cab compartment, I want to up grade them. I had the stock radio replaced with an after market Alpine and I just got a Kenwood 1000 watt Amp. so I need to upgrade the stock speakers, I only want to upgrade the rears, are they 6×9’s?
    Thank you.

  38. I am trying to find the location of my factory radio amp on a Dodge Ram 1500 Sport Quad Cab. Can I get some help?

  39. michael g chisenhall
