i followed your wiring diagram for the 97 ford expedition and i dont have any sound(my expediton came with premium sound package). the head unit comes on and is indicating stereo radio channels but no sound is coming out. i noticed after wiring that there were about 5 wires left over.. would these have anything to do with it? none are showing power or ground ( i checked with a test light). plz help
Todd, your vehicle may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.
The speakers are 5 X 7 not 6 X 8
Larry, thanks for the car stereo speaker size information contribution!
I put an after-market radio into my 1997 Expedition. It works, but every time you turn the truck off and take the key out, all the memory gets erased on the radio. Is there an extra wire that I need to hook up besides the ones on this diagram?
Robert, you may have mixed up the battery constant and accessory switched wires. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your car is on. Check your wiring and make sure the correct radio wires are hooked up to the correct wires on your factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck.
i have the same problem i followed the wireing like you said but yet i have no sound i read that their might be a factory amp in the truck but i was wondering if you figured a way around it so that i can hear my radio????? please help!!!!!
I have the same problem with the factory amp and sub.
I installed a new Radio in my Expedition and have no sound.
If any readers can please help me out here I would really really appreciate it!!
my 1997 expedition radio just stoped working , the cd cartridge ejects but the radio is like no power. I cant see in the manual where a radio fuse is. Where is the radio fuse? It would be great if you could help me. thks Jim
For those that are not getting any sound after wiring in your aftermarket radio in your 97 expedition. There are two adapters one is a long gray one the other a 16 pin green one. The very first wire on the gray one is a blue/white stripe. Wire it with the Red switched wire. It will turn on your factory amp and viola.. sound!!
Scott, thanks for the 1997 Ford Expedition amplifier wiring information contribution.
I have a 1998 Ford Expedition and I want to install a factory looking radio. I now have a radio from a 1997 Ford Expedition to put into it but I don’t have a clue how to wire it. Is there a harness that I can get to make it plug and play-able?
Craig, unfortunately there is no plug and play harness that will allow you to hook up a 1997 Ford Expedition stereo into a 1998 Ford Expedition. You will either have to wire it yourself or have an experienced car stereo installer wire it for you. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1998 Ford Expedition
thanks. finally got sound.. thanks for the tip guys.
Brad, we are happy we could help you with your 1997 Ford Expedition stereo wiring diagram needs.
My 1997 Ford Expedition car radio Battery Constant 12v wire(white/purple) does not have any power, why is that? I think its maybe a fuse but I dont know were it is located. Can somebody help?
I have the same problem.. no sound at all!!
Francisco, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 1997 Ford Expedition may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. Double check that your 1997 Ford Expedition amp turn on wire is connected. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1997 Ford Expedition stereo installation.
