1998-2002 Honda Accord Coupe
I have a 1996 Honda Accord LX with a stock AM/FM/Cassette/6-CD Changer. Love it . . . when it plays. Digital read-out works. I can hear the CD changer working. Problem is, it does not always work. Stereo repair says to “buy a new system” when all I want is for my “old” system to work! Love the sounds, WHEN it works. Alpine CD changer mounted in trunk. Honda stock AM/FM/Cassette. New fuses seemed to help, but it still goes out from time to time. HELP!
Have you checked your lines there my be an open wire along there somewhere which can cause the fuse to blow because power is going somewhere else trying to find ground causing fuse to get hot.
the front speakers in a honda accord 1996 LX are 6 1/2 and the rear speakers are 6 by 9

i have put in a new system in my car and want to know if there is a amp wire on the radio so i can use my amp on the stock radio or a way to rige it if anyone knows?
John, technically you could connect your amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever the car is on and off whenever your car is off. Just make sure to run an in-line 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Ben, most installer will ground wire on a factory bolt that is already on your car. If you can’t find a factory bolt then you can find some bare metal on your vehicle and use a ring terminal and self tapping screw (see below):

The radio in my new – used 1996 ACCORD LX does not always go on when you turn the knob. Sometimes if you turn the knob on/off a few times it does go on.
Has anyone experienced this problem? Is it a wiring issue or a faulty radio knob ?issue?
Robin, it sounds like your radio has a faulty knob or your radio is starting to go. Our advice is to replace it with an aftermarket stereo before your stock radio dies. Hope this helps. Good luck.
So I’ve got this subwoofer and amp sitting around and I’m thinking about mounting it in the trunk of my 1996 Honda Accord EX. I am left wondering about the “turn on” line…where to tap it and how to route it to the trunk. I thought I read somewhere that the EX model was pre-wired for an amp in the trunk…could it be true?

Datura, technically you could connect your 1996 Honda Accord amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 1996 Honda Accord is on and off whenever your 1996 Honda Accord is off. Just make sure to run an in-line 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. is there a way to get a direct out (RCA output etc) for the stock 1997 Honda Accord stereo? my tape player crapped out on me so now I have no way to hook up my ipod (i live in LA so FM transmitters don’t really work). I figure I’d probably have to get a new stereo but if there’s a way to avoid having to spend the money on a new one I’m all ears. Thanks!
Ben, most late model vehicles do not have rca outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:
Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter
When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, use the rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I recently installed a new Sony xplod stereo in my 1996 Honda accord but have had some trouble with the wiring, whenever I turn the car off the stereo turns completely off so when I turn it back on again it is back to the original factory settings. Which wires do I need to switch so that everything doesn’t reset every time I turn the car off?
Ryan, you may have mixed up the battery constant and accessory switched wires. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your 1996 Honda Accord is on.
