How to Change Oil on 2000 Acura Integra

Tools

Automotive Tools Needed for Oil Change: 1/2″ Torque Wrench, 1/2″ 14mm 6-Point Socket, Automotive Jack Stands, Automotive Hydraulic Jack, Oil Filter Wrench, Engine Oil Drain Pan

Parts

Parts and Fluids Needed for Oil Change: (4) to (5) Quarts of 5W-30 Engine Oil, (1) Acura Integra Oil Filter and (1) OEM 2000 Acura Integra Oil Pan Drain Plug Washer. The Oil Pan Drain Plug Washer can be obtained from your local Acura dealer.

Step 1

Prepping for Engine Oil Change: Make sure your 2000 Acura Integra is parked on level ground. Lift the front end of your 2000 Acura Integra using the hydraulic jack and prop up your vehicle using the jack stands. Now, remove your oil filler cap from the top of your engine and slide your oil drain pan underneath the drain plug to catch any used oil during draining.

Step 2

Draining the Oil: Use a torque wrench with a 14mm socket to remove the oil drain plug located on the oil pan. Turning the oil drain plug to the left with remove it and turning it to the right will tighten it. After fully removing the oil drain plug and oil drain plug washer (should be on the drain plug when you remove it), allow the oil to completely drain from the oil pan. This process usually takes between 10 and 20 minutes to complete. After completion, wipe off any residual used oil around the drain hole and re-install the oil drain plug with the oil drain plug washer back onto the oil pan. Tighten the drain plug using 33-ft lbs. of torque.

Step 3

Removal of the Oil Filter: Place your oil drain pan under the oil filter location. Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter from the back side of the engine (between the engine and the firewall). Slowly unscrew the oil filter until the engine oil begins to dribble out. Let the engine oil drain into the oil drain pan. When it oil stops draining continue to unscrew the oil filter completely. Using a rag, wipe off the area where the oil filter meets the engine block so that the new oil filter seals well.

Step 4

Installation of New Oil Filter: Open a bottle of new motor oil and apply some new engine oil on the rubber seal of the new oil filter. This will ensure a tight seal and will make it easier for you to remove the oil filter at your next oil change. Using your hand, screw in the new oil filter into the engine block until you can’t tighten it anymore. Use your oil filter wrench to tighten the oil filter a quarter turn more to ensure a tight seal. Under normal conditions, the oil filter on a 2000 Acura Integra should be replaced at every oil change.

Step 5

Refilling Your 2000 Acura Integra with New Oil: Using the 2000 Acura Integra oil capacity chart below, refill your engine with new motor oil via the oil filler on the top of your engine. Cap off your oil filler and enjoy your 2000 Acura Integra.
