How to Change Car Oil on 1995 Honda Accord
Performing an engine oil change is one of the most important maintenance procedures that will keep your 1995 Honda Accord engine running in tip top shape. The reason why an engine oil change is important is because used oil becomes more and more contaminated as it is used which in turn can lead to increased engine wear.
Make sure your 1995 Honda Accord is on level ground and pull up the emergency brake. Take your hydraulic jack and lift the front driver side of your 1995 Honda Accord at the designated lift point. The designated lift point looks like 2 notches in the metal frame and is located under the vehicle towards the front side of the side skirt. After lifting your 1995 Honda Accord, place a jack stand under the vehicle to prop it up. Repeat on the passenger side.
Now that your 1995 Honda Accord is safely on jack stands, put on a pair of latex gloves and get all your tools ready to be used. Place your engine oil drain pan under the drain plug located at the bottom of the engine oil pan.
Use your 1/2″ ratchet and 14mm socket to loosen the oil pan drain plug by turning the drain plug to the counter-clockwise. After loosening the oil drain plug, remove the drain plug slowly using your fingers. Allow the old oil to completely drain from the 1995 Honda Accord oil pan.
After the old oil has completely drained, wipe off the drain plug and any residual oil left near the oil pan drain plug hole. Reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it securely but do not over-tighten the drain plug. Over-tightening the drain plug will strip the threads.
Take your oil drain pan and move it under the engine oil filter. Use your oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter by turning it counter-clockwise. Once the filter is loose, use your fingers to unscrew the oil filter half way and allow an old oil to drain into your oil drain pan.
Once the old oil has stopped draining, use your fingers to finish unscrewing the oil filter. After removing the oil filter, make sure you tilt the open end of the oil filter upwards to prevent any residual oil from spilling out. Spill out any residual oil in the oil filter into the drain pan. Discard the oil filter.
Use a shop rag to wipe off any residual oil remaining on the engine block. Open a new bottle of 5W-30 engine oil and smear some on the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Reinstall the new oil filter onto the engine block of your 1995 Honda Accord using your hand. Tighten the new oil filter until the filter contacts the seating surface. Then turn the oil filter an additional 3/4 turn. This will insure a tight seal without over-tightening the filter.
Remove the oil filler cap from the top of your 1995 Honda Accord engine. Refer to the chart below and add the correct amount of new oil to your engine. Wipe any spilled oil around the oil filler and re-install the oil filler cap.
