  1. Gary, your 2012 Toyota Tacoma factory stereo system may run on a different impedance (ohm rating) than your aftermarket speakers. Most aftermarket speakers run on 4-ohms. We suggest you install your aftermarket radio then run wires straight to the head unit rather than using the factory amplifier. This will eliminate any problems with mismatched ohm ratings. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2012 Toyota Tacoma speaker and stereo installation.

  2. I have a 2012 Tacoma extra cab, 2.7 L ,SR5 package,4×4. I bought the single din Alpine CDE-123 head unit and two sets of component speakers. Fronts to be Energy 6.5 and rears to be jbl 6×8 and a sub-powered by Infinity – Basslink 200w amp and powered by an Alpine PDF-4-100w x4 Toyota’s six speaker stereo consists of 2 speakers in each fronts doors (mid range and tweeter) equals 4 speakers plus two in the ceiling which equals 6. No rear door speakers. I took off both front door panels, removed both 6×9 and tweeters.(Garbage)and installed a set of Energy 6.5 component speakers. The wiring is the following: 4 wires(Plug In) to tweeter and two wires to the 6×9. Color of the wires is Lt. Green and blue, Lt Green being the positive and blue the negative. I took the two 6×9 wires and ran direct to the crossover for power, ran from the crossover to the mid range energy and tweeter wire to the crossover. A-Ok so far. Turned on power and nothing. When I plugged in the old tweeter there was power but the new energy’s sounded awful, static, mid range thumping, so I took and cut off the old tweeter plug(Two Lt. Green and two blue and joined them together – Lt. Green to Lt. Green and Blue to blue (parallel wiring). and now I have power, but my new speakers sound horrible. Have not changed the head unit yet. What am I doing wrong. Should I run a new speaker wire from the door to the head unit? or wait to change the head unit to figure it out then. I am a little confused. I do what I can, running cables so when I take her in to install the new head unit everything else is done for the installer. The present head doesn’t have enough wattage to make my new speakers sing, not even close. What is my best wiring option. Thanks, Gary.

  3. Im was an installer in my past life. Here is a good tip for you guys. When you get your dash all apart drop your side cutters. Spend the extra money and get a wire harness.
Here is what cutting those wires can do.

    1. Loose wires can be a fire hazard
    2. Its messier than purchasing a wire harness.
    3. When you want to sell your rig it makes it very hard to throw the stock unit back in.

I own a 2008 Toyota Tacoma TRD OFFROAD. I just installed a sat radio and a harmin kardin ipod/ aux port. Using stock JBL desk. If you have questions feel free to ask. Thanks, Brian. Time To Shine Mobile (IASCA)

  4. Hey, does anyone know if the green radio illumination wire is the same as the dimmer wire on a Kenwood deh-b848u for a 2008 Toyota Tacoma? I’m trying to dim the radio using the dash control. Thanks for your help!

  5. Concern: Aftermarket radio has one plugin, the factory radio I just pulled out has like 3 plugs. Do I cut and splice only the wires I need and forget the others or what? Thanks!
