I can’t find the yellow car radio switched wire in my 2003 chevy impala. Is the switch wire another color?
Sam, run a primary wire from the back of your radio to the orange wire at the ignition switch harness for your switched 12v wire. Hope this helps.
does anybody know where the amp ignition wire is…its not right on the harness i have…if someone could tell me the color of it that would be great and solve all my problems
The radio does not have a switched wire. It turns on through a databus singal from the computer, hence your delayed on/off functions. It operates as an extension of the computer. Under the Passenger-side dash there is a Auxiliary power drop hidden in the dash which can be accessed by taking the bottom panel off. This drop has a Ground, Ignition(Switched), and a 15-amp constant line.
James, thanks for the car stereo installation contribution!
The wiring harness from the stock radio has 2 orange wires and one pink one. What orange one do i need to use for the constant power and what should i do with the pink wire? There is also a seperate plug on the back of the stock radio that has two wires one green n black and black w white, What are these for?
How do I bypass the factory amp? I installed new eclipse speakers for the front and they said I have to bypass the amp in order to get full sound. how abouts do I do that?
i have no sound but the power turns the stereo on but nothing comesout of speakers. does it have something to do with the plug that has two wires that don’t go to anything anymore?
Cam, your 2003 Chevrolet Impala may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.
03 Impala has no sound – head unit comes on and seems to be functioning properly. I know amp in trunk is good because i tried it in another 03 Impala. How do I go about diagnosing this problem further? Any help is appreciated
Curt, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Chevrolet Impala stereo or factory amplifier (if equipped) may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Impala radio troubleshooting.
factory amp turn on wire is white wire on factory harness cut it and plug it to blue and white wire from radio unit
Sicopata, thanks for the 2003 Chevrolet Impala radio amplifier turn-on wiring information contribution!

Yes quick question is it possible to have the volume button on the 2003 Chevrolet Impala steering wheel work with a non factory radio I have a pioneer 3400
Delfin, if you’re installing an aftermarket radio into your 2003 Chevrolet Impala and want to retain your steering wheel controls it is possible but it depends on the manufacturer of your aftermarket radio:
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Alpine Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Blaupunkt Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Clarion Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Eclipse Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for JVC Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Kenwood Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Pioneer Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Sony Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Valor Radio
If you have never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Impala stereo installation.
Hi i a 2003 chevrolet impala I did the installation myself. I also have headrest tv’s. My question is can I use the positive and ground cables that are underneath the glove compartment to install my headrest so that I don’t have to use the positive and ground from the stereo wiring? And I would also like to know if there’s a way to have like a switch for the stereo I don’t like that it can b turned on even without the key. Thanks
Johan, we advise you to run a primary wire to your battery as a power source and ground your negative wire to the chassis (look below):
1. Find some bare metal on your vehicle. Make sure this bare metal touches the chassis (frame) of the vehicle.
2. Connect a ring terminal to the ground wire coming off your aftermarket amplifier.
3. Use a self tapping screw to attach the black wire with ring terminal to the bare metal. Just make sure the metal you are screwing into does not have any wires or vital automotive components behind it.
Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Impala headrest TV installation.
