  1. hi. im not sure where the easiest and best place for the Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire to be tapped into. ive read the wipers, or the steering column. but im sure theres something less critical i can tap into. i just dunno what. can u help please? ty i own a 2003 chevy cavalier 2 door. and im installing a aftermarket deck.

  2. Dason, the easiest place to tap a wire would be in the steering column at the ignition switch harness. Tap the accessory wire (orange). This is the 12+ switched wire. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  3. I have a 2002 chevy cavalier with a basic (no cd or cassette) am/fm car radio. question is will a oem 2003 chevy cavalier radio with cd fit in existing car radio slot, and is the original car wiring going to plus into this newer radio ( I only have 2 speakers in my 2002 )
dealer says it should be connector maybe wrong (meaning existing car wiring plug to new am/fm cd radio. any comments appreciated

  4. John, there is a possibility that the 2002 plugs may be different from the 2003 plugs. You best bet is to try and source the plug wire harness for the 2003 radio and splice those wires into your 2002 factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  5. Hi, I am looking for the radio code as my stereo is locked. My battery died last week and I had to get a boost so I am assuming that is why the loc message is coming on now. If anyone has the code that would be great as I cannot justify paying a dealer $$$ to get an access code. Thanks.

  6. Cynthia, if you don’t have the radio security code, you would have to obtain it from the dealer. Each radio has its own unlock code. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  7. My son installed Pioneer rear speakers in his 2003 Cavalier. Factory wires have 4 leads
but the new speakers have only 2. There is static from the speakers when car and radio is off. Could they be wired wrong?

  8. ModifiedLife, No the car doesn’t have rear tweeters. The speakers taken out were factory.
We were left with 2 extra wires at each speaker that we taped over. Sound seems good
but the static when everything is turned off has me wondering if it’s draining the battery.

  9. Jeff, it would be hard for us to troubleshoot your problem online. What we can advise is that you try is choosing a different switched power source. The wire you tapped to provide a switched power source for the radio may not be a good source. Try tapping the orange wire in the ignition switch harness located in the steering column. Another thing you can try is running the radio without the rear speakers connected to see if the static is being caused by the rear speaker connections. If the static is gone then the rear speakers are not hooked up correctly. If the static is still present, you may have a wire incorrectly tapped somewhere. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  10. Hello, I have a 2003 Cavalier, the Stero is original, and I wanted to know if there is an Aux input, so I can plug my MP3/iPod.

  11. Hi, any chance you can help me with instructions how to unlock radio on 1997 chevy cavalier? I have the code, thank you,
    Linda

im hooking up an alpine in-dash and we looked at the wiring diagram and it matches most of it but there is a purple wire that i cannot find out what it goes to? can you help?

  13. Hi. I’m trying to install a new radio into my 1998 Cavalier. The problem I’m running into is that the existing stereo wiring (the wiring which connected to the factory radio) has different wiring than my new radio. Specifically, the existing wiring has two wires for power (the constant and switched power sources.) The new radio has one wire for the battery, and one wire for the ignition key.

Am I correct in assuming that the battery wire should be spliced with the existing constant wire, and the ignition key wire should be spliced with the switched wire?

Anyway, I just want to get your say on things before I go cutting wires. Thanks for your time!

    -Kevin

  14. Kevin, you are correct. The battery wire should be spliced with the existing constant wire, and the ignition key wire should be spliced with the switched wire. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  15. I am also running into the purple wire. I cannot find it anywhere in anyone’s diagrams. Any input would be very helpful. Thank you.

  16. I have a 03 Cavalier and I want to replace the stereo. However, the stereo seems to be integrated into my dashboard. I can’t find any way to get the stereo out.

Is there any easy way that I am missing?
    Thanks :)

  17. Felicia, you will need a Chevrolet Cavalier radio dash kit. Here is the dash kit you need:

  19. I have searched up and down looking for my Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: Pink and I do not have one. I have a stock 03 cavalier.

  20. hi, i have a 2002 chevy cavaleir and i need to run a wire from the ignition to the stereo to get power, what wire would i choose? my choices are blackish brown or pink

  21. Bethany, if you don’t have an amplifier trigger wire, you may not have a factory amplifier and may not need to hook this wire up. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo installation.

  22. i’m installing an avic-z110bt head unit… and need to know where the speed detection lead is for the gps, and also what wire would i use to get the automatic dimming feature working?

  23. Robert, use the dark green/white wire at the PCM module located under the hood on the passenger firewall. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo installation.

  24. One day driving my Cavalier 2003 down the road the factory radio just stopped putting out music. The displays all show up it shows me what songs are playing but no sound. We have now hooked up a new head unit and only the after market sub and amp will work. No sound from the factory speakers but when you turn on the car you will hear a click/pop out of the back speakers. do you have any Ideas we are stumpped.. and don’t want to put this dash togehter with out fixing it.

  25. Lindsay, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo or factory amplifier may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier radio troubleshooting.

  26. hi, im actually certified to do this. i got an 03 chevy cavalier and im doin a new deck in it. got the dash kit and harness adapter and all but dont know what the extra red wire is supplied for. just need to know what and where to tap that wire into so it works. and i cant where in the connector to splice in the other end

  27. The extra red wire is for switched power, I used the wiper fuse with a fuse and on harness available at auto parts stores. Also I didn’t use the super expensive harness that let’s you keep the door chime and key in chime. I figured out that if I wasn’t intelligent enough to realize those two things I shouldn’t be driving.

Also where is the best place to run a 4 gauge power wire through the fire wall? I was working on this today but it got late. I figured I would see if anyone had any tips on this.

  28. My son has a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier and would like to know if a factory stereo from a 2004 would work? The 2004 has an aux output.

  29. I have a 03 Cavalier and an installer informed me that if i dont install the proper wire harness that my airbags will deploy on their own. I find that hard to believe but is there any truth to this?

  30. I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier with a stock AM/FM radio and CD player. I was givin a Kenwood deck and a 12″ Soundstream USA Dual Coil Competition Speaker and I was told that all i need to get to hook everthing up to my car correctly is a Wire Harness and a installation kit. I bought the installation kit but every where i go to get the wire harness the try charging me 35.99 to 100.00. Which i dont wanna pay that much when i see that all other wire harness’s cost 12.00 to 22.00. Can someone please tell me wat all i need to get a cheap one or if i need to buy the expensive one?

  31. Ed, we are happy we could help you with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo wiring diagram needs.

  32. Hey I got a question: I recently installed a sony xplod cd player in my girlfriends 2003 Chevrolet malibu. I have everything connect except 3 wire that I didn’t know where to plug them cause I didn’t have anymore wire left from the new cd player. I think it’s a black with white stripe wire, a grey one and i don’t remember what is the last one. I didn’t buy the wiring harness cause we are poor and cause my friend instal that unit ( almost 100$) and at winter, his unit froze and broke. so we didn’t want to deal with that. So after finishing my installation the radio is working perfectly but the only problem is that all the dash light and fan light never come on ( i think it’s cause of the grey wire that is not hook to nothing) flasher, gaz low light, door light is working fine. it’s only the other light. So at night it’s a nightmare to see at what speed we are going. so what wire I have to connect to where to get those light on? by the way I don’t care about the keys in contact noise when the door is open. But my girlfriend is really upset about those light so please help me find my solution. anyone?

  33. I have a 2002 chevrolet cavalier. I am replacing the old radio with a new pioneer. Do i hook the black ground wire from the radio harness to the black ground from the wiring harness and tape them off. Or do i need to ground them to the chassis? Thanks

  34. Nic, we suggest you to ground your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo to your chassis. Your chassis will provide the best grounding point. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo installation.

  35. so here is a problem i have. in my 2003 cavalier i cut the wires off my original deck that was in the car. without the little attachment piece that went into the factory deck. i got a aftermarket deck and hooked it up according to the wiring diagram that i got off this site. it works perfectly fine except i dont have interior lights. help me please is this gonna affect anything else? anyone know?

  36. I have a double din coming in and i have the after market wiring harness but i am curious what color the 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier reverse trigger wire is for my back up camera and my bluetooth and remote wire thank you. i really dont want to mess this system up

  37. Randall, use the light green wire in the harness going to your transmission. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier radio installation.

  38. We have a 2003 chevrolet cavalier and put in new pioneer deck with wiring harness kit, no problem. Problem is 4 wires to rear deck speakers (woofer and tweeter) being replaced with two wire rear speakers. Which wires do we use and not use? anyone?

  39. Roderick, run a primary wire to your steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. This brown wire will provide you with a switched power source. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo install.

  40. I have hooked a new kenwood receiver to my 2003 chevrolet cavalier and the front speakers work just fine, but the rears produce no noise. Factory hu still works w/ rears, though. What could the problem be? I am pretty sure that I wired the harnesses correctly and that nothing has shorted. anyone?
