on a 2002 chevey cavalier for switched power 12 v the diagram says run a wire to the ignition switch. Where in the fuse box do i run it? also the illumination wire where does that go?
Mark, run a primary wire from the back of your radio to the orange wire at the ignition switch harness for your switched 12v wire. Hooking up the illumination wire is not necessary if you’re using the dimmer wire. Hope this helps.
where is the ignition switch harness at?
Denny, the ignition switch harness is located in the steering column. Hope this helps. Good luck.
there are 2 different sized black wires. one bigger then the other i assumed the larger one is the real ground but before i proceed id like it to be clear so i dont blow my stereo. Anyone with any exp on this?
Ryan, you have to ground your aftermarket radio to the chassis (vehicle frame) when you don’t have a factory ground wire in the stereo wire harness. Simply ground your wire to the chassis (look below).
1. Find some bare metal on your vehicle (somewhere near your factory radio harness). Make sure this bare metal touches the chassis (frame) of the vehicle.
2. Connect a ring terminal to the black wire coming off your aftermarket radio harness.
3. Use a self tapping screw to attach the black wire with ring terminal to the bare metal.
Hope this helps. Good luck with grounding your car stereo.
i have installed my new stereo but i am having trouble with my left rear speaker i know the wires are yellow and brown from the vehicle but they switch colors in the new wiring harness im confused as to which wires to use
i have wired everything up properly. stereo is grounded. 12v wiring connected, speaker wires connected. the problem is the stereo will not come on. does the illumination/dimmer have to be connected because there is not place to wire it up to the stereo????????
does anyone have diagram of a 2002 chevy cavalier wiring harness? one of the wires came out on the harness and im not sure where it goes.
i have a no radio in my 2002 chevrolet cavalier but i have one to put in its a JVC. anyway the diagram on the JVC says it has an accessory wire and i was wondering what i would connect that to? i dont have the money to buy a wiring harness and a friend of mine “jerry rigged” it before and worked great (long story on why i took it out) but he just connected the wires straight to the wires from my car. and i cant remember exactly how he did it. and what exactly is the Car Radio Illumination Wire coming from the car and what would i hook it up to if you might know all that thanks for all the help!
Ellen, run a primary wire to the steering column and use the orange wire in the ignition switch harness for your accessory switch wire source. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier stereo installation.
What wire would I attach the illumination wire to in my 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier?
Joe, technically you could connect your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier is on and off whenever your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier amplifier install.
