  1. I have a 2001 Grand Am GT with a Mongoose system in it. I recently put new back speakers in it and something is just not right. There are 4 wires to each back speaker. Can anyone tell me what all of them are for? I have just 2 of them hooked up right now. thanks.

  2. Angel, technically you could connect your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the accessory switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is on and off whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

  3. I’m trying to install amps in my 2000 pontiac grand am but I can’t find the remote wire were does it need to be connected to get my amp up and running?

  4. Seth, you will need some aftermarket electronics to hook up a subwoofer to your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am factory stereo. You will need five components:

    1. Car Subwoofer
    2. Car Subwoofer Box to house your car subwoofer.
    3. Car Audio Amplifier that matches your subwoofer power needs and ohm rating.
    4. Car Amplifier Wiring Kit that can handle the power needs of your amplifier.
    5. RCA Line Out Converter to feed an audio signal from your factory radio to your aftermarket amplifier.

First run all your amplifier power from your car battery to where you plan on mounting your amplifier. Next, run your ground wire from your grounding point to your amplifier. Wire up the RCA Line Out Converter to the rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. Next, connect one end of your RCA jacks to the Line Out Converter and the other end of the RCA jacks to your amplifier. This will provide an audio signal to your after market amp. Lastly, connect your subwoofer to your after market amplifier using the speaker wire in the amplifier wiring kit. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier and subwoofer installation.

  5. i just bought subwoofers and an amp for my 2001 pontiac grand am. how do i hook the amp to the factory head unit? there are no rca inputs?

  6. Zack, we suggest you install an automotive auxiliary input adapter. This aux input adapter will allow you to input any mp3 player, portable music player, Apple iPod or Apple iPhone into your factory stereo. This is the most cost effective and easiest way to add an audio input into your factory radio directly rather than over the air. Here is the adapter you will need:

  7. Brandon, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, check your after market radio connections behind your head unit. If all your wire connections are good, take a look at your battery terminals wires. Sometimes when your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am battery wire terminals are not in full contact with battery posts because of corrosion, your radio could cut in and out. Try removing your battery wire terminals from the battery, clean them with a battery terminal cleaner and re-install. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am radio troubleshooting.

  8. I have been having this weird problem with my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am car stereo. When my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is off but the key is turned to on, the stereo works fine. When i turn on the engine, however, the stereo works for about 2 second and then dies. If i restart the car 4-6 times it would eventually work. Any ideas?

  9. My girlfriend has a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am Gt thought she just bought today. While we were looking it over we thought that the speakers were blown. We removed them and tried to figure out how to re wire the speakers again. we bought new ones and i cut and spliced the wires together and now the speakers are cracking and not sounding good. is there something that i did wrong?

  10. Had previously installed after market CD Player in my 2001 Pontiac Grand AM GT. The wiring was messed up, so we just put the factory CD player back in, but now the dash lights do not work. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

  11. Dylan, technically you could connect your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is on and off whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier install.

  12. I put some subs in and amp and i have a after market sony head unit. i had one blue wire left over so thought it would be for the amp but it wouldn’t turn it on. what color wire do i need to use to wire the aftermarket amp to?

  13. Matthew, you would have to install automotive auxiliary input adapter. An automotive auxiliary input adapter will allow you to input any mp3 player or portable music player into your factory radio. This is the easiest and most cost effective way to add an audio input into your factory stereo. Here is the adapter you will need:

  14. I have a 2001 grand am with original stereo, I wanted to add a 3.5 mm headphone jack. There is a button on my stereo that says cd/aux… does this mean I have to possibility to add it easily? How exactly should I proceed? Thanks is advance!

  15. Collin, it sounds like your relay may have been wired incorrectly. It isn’t necessary to wire in a relay for your switched power wire but just make sure to run an in-line 10 amp fuse for protection. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am switched power wire installation.

  16. (Comment by ModifiedLife on February 10th, 2010 at 12:20 am Brian, run a wire from the back of the radio to the steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. This will provide a switched power source for your car stereo. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am stereo install.) i installed a relay in the car for the accessory. i ran it to the brown wire in the steering column as you said. it worked great for a while until i turned on cruise control and all of the sudden all the lights on the dash lit up. then all the gauges stopped working completely. i took out the relay and it now works fine. im not sure what i did wrong? any ideas?

  17. Joseph, connect the line converter to the wires by the speaker terminals that way you will have a full range audio signal. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2004 Grand Am line converter install.

  18. Where is the factory amp on a 2004 Grand am gt, and do i have to connect my line converter from those wires or can i use the ones from the head unit. Oh yeah it has the Monsoon system in it. Please help thank you.

  19. Clayton, it sounds like your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am factory amplifier needs to be turned on by your radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier otherwise you will not get any audio. Make sure your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amp turn on is wired. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am touch screen installation.

  20. im installing the new pioneer 7″ touch screen deck in my 2001 grand am. I’ve got power and sound but its very quiet and the amp doesn’t seem to be engaged. any thoughts?

  21. Bailey, yes it is possible to add a subwoofer and an amplifier to the 2001 Pontiac Grand Am factory radio. It does take some wiring knowledge and installation know-how. You would require an aftermarket amplifier, amplifier wiring, subwoofer and a speaker to rca line out converter. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter

When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your subwoofer and amp installation.

  22. Brian, run a primary wire from the back of the radio to the steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. This will provide a switched power source for your car stereo. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am stereo install.

  23. Trying to install a new radio in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. I need to know where to connect the wire that I would run from the fuse box. Do I connect it to the aftermarket harness?

  24. Jason, yes it would be problem. You would need to match up your aftermarket head unit ohm rating with the same ohm rating for your speakers. Audio will not play properly if you don’t match them up. Our advice is to change your speakers to 4 ohm speakers to work with your 4ohm aftermarket head unit. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  25. I am going to replace the rear speakers on my 2001 Grand Am. I am also considering replacing the Monsoon radio with an after market head unit. I am wondering if it will be a problem mixing the 2 ohm factory amp and front speakers with a 4 ohm aftermarket head unit? Thanks.

  26. Steve, technically you could connect your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am amplifier turn on wire to the accessory switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is on and off whenever your 2001 Pontiac Grand Am is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

  27. I am puting a new deck in my 2001 grand am. Will there be a wire in the new harness that should wire to the amp trigger? The new deck is a pioneer, couple years old.

  28. Pete, since we’re not sure how you installed your amplifier system, our advice is to retrace all your wires and make sure everything is hooked up correctly. Make sure your remote turn on and your speaker wire connections are wired up correctly. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  29. hey i have an 01 pontiac grand am and have recently installed a sound system. i have all the wires hooked up, there is power to my amp, power to the deck, and yet i have no audio whatsoever. do you have any suggestions as to what could be causing this? thank you
