  1. i have the 2001 nissan xterra with a 6 disc changer. just bought a cd player for it and have everything hooked up including the amp bypass kit or whatever that thing is and i’m getting next to no volume at all. i can hear the radio, but it’s very quiet, even at full volume. any ideas why? anyone?

  2. Hennie, were happy you were able to complete your 2001 Nissan Xterra stereo installation with the information provided here!

  3. Hi Anthony, thank you so much for the contribution. i had exactly the same problem as you , your colors where the same as mine and it was busy a week before i saw yours. i did start again and was done in 15 min. thank you so much, Hennie in Colorado.

  4. The above info did not correspond with my 2001 Xterra. I had the stock double din radio and after testing and installing my new unit, I found the following to be accurate for me. Always test your connections – I take no responsibility for this info, but it is difficult to find, so hopefully this will save someone the hours it took me to confirm. Also, after determining the power wires with a volt meter, it became evident that the smaller plug contained the 4 rear speaker wires, and the front speakers were in the larger plug that also contained the power.

Closer inspection revealed the speaker pairs are bundled together, so it was easy to determine the (+) and (-) for each speaker, and just became a matter of identifying location.

Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Red/Yellow
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Green/Red
    Car Radio Ground Wire: Chassis
Car Radio Dimmer Wire (headlights on): Assumed to be Blue/Red, not used with my new head unit
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Blue
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/White
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/Red
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Green
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Orange
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Black/Pink

    Good luck
