  1. Erick, yes it is possible to get your steering wheel controls to work but it depends on the manufacturer of your aftermarket radio. You will need a steering wheel control adapter to keep your factory steering wheel controls:

Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Alpine Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Blaupunkt Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Clarion Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Eclipse Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for JVC Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Kenwood Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Pioneer Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Sony Radio
Steering Wheel Control Adapter for Valor Radio

If you have never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1994 Pontiac Transport stereo installation.

  2. Question, My 94 Pontiac Transport came equipped with radio controls on the steering wheel. I’m assuming that any aftermarket radio will not be compatible/controlled by it. I do not see any wiring options on my new head unit that are labeled for steering controls. If I’m correct what wires are the ones going to the steering wheel so I can avoid screwing all that up…..Think I need to find a schematic I never installed a unit into a steering controlled radio equipped vehicle. Or am I just paranoid and I should just follow the color codes provided here and ignore any other wires to be safe. I’m sure it will work but wanted to consult some pros first. Please feel free to give any advise or tips. Also It seems radios would become adaptable for this as most rides have this setup, I can imagine that customers who get a better quality system installed are upset over the fact they no longer have radio control at their fingertips, Is this affecting aftermarket sales/installs? Thank you!
