I located replacement bulbs, but don’t know how to remove the lenses from the Map light and the Dome light so I can install the bulbs. Please advise. Thank you.

  • Reply ModifiedLife November 17, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Gail, if you look closely at the clear lens portion of the dome and map light, most late models cars have a small notch where you can insert a flat head screwdriver to pry open the clear lens out of the light housing. Just take your time so you don’t crack the lens. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I need replacement stoplight bulbs for my 2004 Optima. Are they carried by retailers such as Autozone, Pep Boys or Walmart?

  • Reply ModifiedLife May 20, 2009 at 3:09 am

Robert, yes you can buy a stop light bulb from any local auto parts store. We advise you call them ahead of time, that way you don’t end up driving to a dozen different stores trying to find the right bulb. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Matt, if you have some wiring experience, installing an HID kit is pretty straight forward.. some kits are even plug and play. You would need to choose a color rating. 4300K is yellow/white, 5000K is white, 6000K is white/blue, 8000K is blue and 12000K is purple. You need to purchase a HID kit with a 9003 bulb application. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Andrew, most cars have headlights that run at 55 watts and a HID kit runs at 35 watts so you will not have to worry about melting. For the correct headlight size, please refer to: 2009 Kia Rio Light Bulb Size Chart

Hi, I just bought a 2000 Kia Sephia and it appears to have a burned-out dome bulb. Kragen has no data on a replacement bulb for this vehicle. Can you help? Also, any advice on how to remove the lens to access the bulb? Thanks.

  • Reply ModifiedLife January 29, 2010 at 2:45 am

Peg, if you look closely at the clear lens portion of the dome light, most late models cars have a small notch where you can insert a flat head screwdriver to pry open the clear lens out of the light housing. Some do not have a notch but the lens can be pried open. Just take your time so you do not crack the lens. Hope this helps. Good luck with your map light bulb replacement.

My 2006 Kia Sorento apparently has a short in the dome light. It works fine when pressing the switch for either side but the one in the middle that should come on when the door is opened does not work. And this does not happen all the time, just sporadically. Is the bulb just going bad or is there a short in the wiring? Also, the lights around my gear shift are all out. At night the only way I can tell (other then by feel) which gear I have the car in is to look at my dashboard the see which “letter” (i.e., D,R,N,P) shows up there. Is there actually a bulb of some kind in this area that can be replaced or is something else going on here? My husband checked the fuses and did not find one that was blown. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

  • Reply ModifiedLife July 6, 2010 at 11:27 am

Rhonda, double check ALL your fuses because certain vehicles may have the domelight circuit tied into another circuit not labeled domelight. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. Hope this helps. Good luck with troubleshooting your 2006 Kia Sorento domelight.

I have a 2007 optima and want to change to a brighter head lamp bulb, don’t want to blind the hell out of others, just brighter.
I need to know what type to look for, and the bulb number. I also need to know if I can do this myself or not. Are the bulbs the type that you can pull out of the head lamp housing, replace the bulb and put back in, or will I have to get a shop tech to do this.

  • Reply ModifiedLife March 15, 2011 at 12:36 am

Pat, if you want a brighter output headlight, you have a couple of options:

High Output H11B Headlight Bulbs (for Late Model 2007 Kia Optima)
High Output H7 Headlight Bulbs (for Early Model 2007 Kia Optima)

Replacement H11B HID Kit (for Late Model 2007 Kia Optima)
Replacement H7 HID Kit (for Early Model 2007 Kia Optima)

If you choose to replace your factory headlight bulbs with brighter High Output Headlight Bulbs, you can expect about a 30% brighter output but a lower bulb lifespan than regular light bulbs. If you choose to replace your headlight bulbs with a Replacement H8 HID Kit, you can expect an even higher brightness output and a longer headlight bulb life span than regular headlight bulbs. Changing the bulbs or installing a HID kit is not very hard. All replacement bulbs and HID kits are plug and play. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2007 Kia Optima fog light bulb replacement.

Trying to figure out which kit to get for my 2010 KIA Soul. But kind of confused on what size I need 9003 or H4? Both are listed above. Would either work?
