more of a question than a comment...i installed a JVC head unit in my g/f's nissan and the radio works fine but no sound,i used a scosche wiring kit so i could keep the factory plugs. i have checked the wiring twice and everything is correct,i even tried a pioneer radio just for s&g but the same thing happened radio works but no sound, the factory radio works when it wants to but when it works there's sound, what am i missing?

In case anyone's trying to get at the back speakers of their '97 altima, here's how:

1st take out the back seat:
under the bench there are 2 hex bolts, undo these, lift the front and remove the bench seat.

This exposes 2 smaller hex bolts at the bottom of backrest. remove these. In the middle of the backrest there is a fold down armrest; fold this down. Behind this there can be found a metal frame with 2 zinc hex/philips screws - remove these. The backrest should come out, but you may need to remove 2 black philips screws inside & at the top of the armrest hole.

once the seat is out, the deck needs to be lifted out. There's a large gold hex head bolt in the middle of the deck to remove. The deck is clipped down by white plastic (clip things?) which are accessible from the trunk (under the deck). I pinched them with pliers and pushed them up ( I think there were 4 ).

lift the front of the deck out and bring towards you. Now you have access to the speakers which have 4 screws each.

Dear Modified Life People:

THERE IS AN ALTERNATE WIRING COLOR CODE FOR 1997 Nissan ALTIMA GXE Delux (I had a heck of a time). Please post this to your site as well.

MAKE SURE TO TELL PEOPLE THAT REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY "OHM IT OUT" ---- THERE IS NO CONTACT PIN OR EXISTING WIRE THAT IS GROUND !!!!! (some really strange things happen to aftermarket radios if you think the Red/yellow wire on pin 9 of the 10-pin connector is ground"!!!!!
So the Color code that worked for me :
Large 10-Pin Connector:
Constant Hot (Memory or Clock) =RED wire pin8
Switched (Ignition) Hor = Blue wire pin4
Left Front Speaker + = Blue/white pin1
Left Front Speaker - = Blue/yellow pin5
Right Front Speaker + = Brown pin2
Right Front Speaker - = Brown/white pin6

The Smaller (6-pin) connector is only for the rear Speaker:
Left Rear + = Red pin5
Left Rear - = Green pin4
Right Rear + = Blue pin2
Right Rear - = Pink pin6

I hope this saves some poor sap down the road the headache I encountered !
