  1. I have a 2003 chevy silverado ss with a bose system and it lost all sound I just bought a new touch screen sound storm radio and I am wondering if I should buy the harness kit and run it through the amp and see if it works or bypass the amp and I was also trying to find out about a steering wheel controls adapter for the bose to a sound storm can you help? anyone know?

  2. I have a 2003 silverado 2500 hd is this used as the same diagram? Also I wired it using this diagram and I have 3 wires not used its a brake wire reverse wire and illuminate wire. What do I use those wires for? Or where would I hook them up too?

    1. Steven, yes this is the correct stereo wiring. The 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 brake wire is located at the emergency brake. The 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 reverse wire is the light green wire and is pin F in the black plug at the BCM module. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 stereo installation.

  3. I installed a aftermarket cd player in my 2004 gmc sierra using the wiring harness with chimes. It turns on, but sometimes shuts off after truck ignition. Any ideas?? thanks

    1. Brad, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, check your after market radio connections behind your head unit. If all your wire connections are good, take a look at your battery terminals wires. Sometimes when your 2004 GMC Sierra battery wire terminals are not in full contact with battery posts because of corrosion, your radio could cut in and out. Try removing your battery wire terminals from the battery, clean them with a battery terminal cleaner and re-install. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2004 GMC Sierra radio troubleshooting.

  4. I have a problem with my factory radio in my 2003 chervolet Silverado, when the ignition is off the radio is still pulling approx. 2 amps. Please could someone point me in the right direction to solve this problem?? Tried switching factory radios still had the same problem. anyone?

  5. I was wondering about the red light flashing on my 2003 chevy silverado factory stereo. Will it hurt anything when i unhook my factory stereo to put an aftermarket one in?? I heard it was a security light and it could lock something up. is that true?

  6. my 2003 chev ss truck has a factory bose 6 disc stereo . radio stopped working. it lights up and seems to pick up radio chanel but no sound and i lost all my warning chimes. is this common and is there a reset or is my internal amp gone

    1. Flippy, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Chevrolet SS Truck factory amplifier (if equipped) may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet SS Truck radio troubleshooting.

  7. I have a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. I bought the recommended wiring harness and it came with a chime box and everything. When I took out the factory radio all that’s back there is the 24-pin plug. Why do I even have a chime box and all of these other plugs in the harness kit? anyone?

  8. I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado and the radio sound would fade in and out (all display functions still worked) and recently it quit working all together as with the chime for door ajar. I purchased a new aftermarket radio and the wiring kit with the new chime and installed it. All functions of my aftermarket radio work and the display on it works but still no sound out of the speakers. Any suggestions? Thank You.

    1. Jeremy, double check ALL your automotive fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the passenger kick panel, driver side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger side of the dash, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your automotive fuses are not blown, your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado factory amplifier (if equipped) may be faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo troubleshooting.

  9. I have a 2003 chevy silverado with bose and onstar. I want to use the oem radio and I purchased the adapter to plug in my left and right audio from the amp but i am confused on which wires i need to hook up the wires to. The instructions say I need right and left output. What wires are those? Thanks.

  10. i have a 2004 chevrolet silverado with bose radio i bought used. The am/fm radio work fine. i had xm signal transferred to radio, recieving channels and display but no sound on xm. anyone got an ideas?

    1. Ronnie, when splicing in your RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you install a line out converter, your rear speakers will still work properly. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 204 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier installation.

  11. I have a 2006 Silverado Crewcab that I want to install a GM OEM 6 disc changer. Questions… 1) Where can I buy the wiring harness that plugs into my radio? 2) Where was the OEM changer located on my year\model truck?

  12. I have a 2003 GMC Sierra with BOSE and On Star. I put an aftermarket head unit, Amp and a sub in it that i swapped out of my 2005 Silverado. It worked just fine in my silverado but now that i put it in my 03, i have power to my amp, and ive taken my buddies brand new amp and head unit and RCA cables and used them to see if something was wrong with mine but the didnt work either but they work in his. I bought the “GM 2000” wiring kit at wal-mart, that came with the chime box and installed it. Why am i not getting any noise out of my sub? anyone?

  13. Me and a friend installed an aftermarket Pioneer head unit in a 2003 Chevy Silverado W/T model, which had factory AM/FM radio only. We cant seem to get it to turn off when the key is turned off, you have to manually turn off the head unit. There are 2 orange wires in the Chevy, which we presumed are both hot, but only powers the unit on, the thickest orange wire, but the head unit wont turn off unless you do it manually. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    1. Scott, run a primary wire from the back of your radio to your steering column and use the brown wire in the ignition switch harness. This brown wire will provide a switched power source for your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo installation.

  14. I added a external amp to my 2005 trailblazer and now the chimes are amplified too. Is there any way to stop this?

  15. I purchased a isimple soundbyte kit for 2004 chevy 2500 hd. It requires you to connect it using the cd changer wiring port at the back of the radio. Can I utilize the port where my xm module is connected instead. Do you have a wiring diagram for the cd and xm connectors?

    1. Dave, as much as we would like to help you, most of the car stereo wiring information listed on our website is provided by our visitors. We currently do not have any information on the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 cd or xm connector wiring but hopefully someone from our Modified Life community would be able to chime in and help you out.

  16. hey i have a 2003 chevrolet silverado 1500 v6 and i just hooked up my pioneer radio and the thing stays on after the truck is off and key is pulled out… had to splice into the orange to get power how do i get the thing to remotely turn off when i turn the truck off….. i have to take the face off just to get it to turn off ….. the blue and white wire i thought was remote to turn off and is hooked up with the blue white cord on harness … what do i do ????

    1. John, it sounds like the way you wired up your Pioneer radio is incorrect. Double check your wiring and make sure you have the correct wires spliced to the right colors. The remote turn on wire is not used to turn the radio on and off, it is used to turn an amplifier on and off. The switched accessory wire is used to turn the radio on and off. Hope this helps. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo installation.

  17. 2003 silverado, radio shows that it is on, no sound, any suggestions, I have tried replacing the fuse in the driver side of dash and the one under the hood. At one time the sound would come back and then go away, it could be a loose connection. The pickup only has 60,000 miles and I am the only owner, never been crashed.

    1. Roy, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. If all of your fuses are good, you may have a short or loose connection on your amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado radio troubleshooting.

  18. I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado and dont know how to adjust time on the radio. There is no set button and no small buttons under clock to set time. Please help

  19. I have a 2003 Chevy Avalanche. The front driver’s side speaker does not work unless it is warm outside. And, my factory installed stereo has started powering off on its own for no reason when I’m playing a cd. It comes back on a second later with the time reset to 12:00. Do you think there is a short in the wiring somewhere? And if so, where should I look? Or could the stereo system be overheating from using my truck’s heat in the colder weather? Thanks.

  20. Do i need to raise the back seat in my 2003 1500 chevy silverado regular cab, to fit two 12” speakers under the seat? and where is the best place to fit the 1000 watt amp?

  21. just installed a pioneer stereo on 2003 suburban using kits all seems to be working in proper order. only concern is when i took factory radio it had two plug in harness to stereo. kit only came with one . like i said its plays sounds great. just wondering if havin plug loose will cause malfuction if i dont have that other plug hooked up?

  22. i have a 2002 chevy silverado ext cab and im putting an aftermarket sub in it and was wondering where i would run the remote turn on wire? would it go to the pink wire or the thicker orange wire?

    1. Austin, technically you could connect your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado is on and off whenever your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado subwoofer install.

  23. can anyone tell me if it is possible to add a sub-woofer (powered or not) to a 2010 chevy silverado (without factory Bose system)? thanks!

    1. Chrissy, yes you can. Most late model vehicles do not have RCA outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier so you would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter

When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2010 Chevrolet Silverado subwoofer installation.

  24. I recently bought a used 2003 Silverado. The factory radio is behind the seat with a harness of somekind hooked up to it, no speakers just the radio head. He put an after market radio and amp in it (that dosent work). He says that the fatory radio has to be hooked up or the truck wont run, and the air bags wont work. Has anyone heard of this, and how do i get rid of the radio behind the seat?

  25. I am working on an 01 Chevy Silverado and just replaced an aftermarket radio with another aftermarket, but during the transition I lost power to the ignition wire going into the radio. Now, I do not have power at all to the radio and after checking all of the fuses I can’t find a solution. Please help!!!

    1. David, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. Hope this helps. Good luck with troubleshooting your 2001 Chevy Silverado radio.

  26. We have a 2003 chevy silverado. A cd was put in it and it skips and I went to take it out and it wont come out, now the whole radio wont turn off. Its possessed now. I cant find a fuse to disconnect it so the battery wont die. ANy ideas???? Thanks!

  27. Is it possible to add bluetooth capablities to my 2003 Chevrolet Silverado? My current cell phone has bluetooth technology and I would like to integrate that into my pick up. This would allow me to me to make phone calls with voice commands and be hands free while driving. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Michael, yes it is possible to add a car bluetooth device to your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado. Here is the adapter you will need:

Hands Free Bluetooth Adapter for 2003 Chevrolet Silverado

If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado bluetooth adapter installation.

  28. Please help, I installed a new aftermarket Stereo in my 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD during the install I blew a fuse I replace the fuse and I am still not getting power.

    1. Chris, double check ALL your fuses using a Automotive Fuse Tester because certain vehicles may have a wire tied into another circuit not labeled as car radio. You may have additional fuse boxes by the driver side of the dash, passenger side of the dash, driver kick panel, passenger kick panel, under the steering column or under the hood. Hope this helps. Good luck with troubleshooting your 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 radio.

  29. Im installing an after market amp to a stock stereo system in my truck. I pretty much got everything wired up but, I dont know where to put the remote start cable from the amp to the truck, Iis there a wire in the back of the stereo that I can strip so that I can connect it??

    1. Audie, run a wire to your steering column and use the orange wire in the ignition switch wire. This wire will provide you with a switched power source. Just make sure to run an in-line 1-amp fuse on the amplifier remote turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier install.

  30. I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and installed a Pioneer dvd/cd touch screen deck, 2 rockford fosgate amps, capacitor and 12″ woofers in a custom long box which fit under the back seat. Most the other equipment was bolted to the rear panel behind the back seat, everything was professionally installed. Everything was also recently stolen and the insurance did not cover most of the stuff, even though I had the original receipt because it was not mounted in a factory location. Where can I find out where a factory location would be for my truck I cannot find this info anywhere. Thanks for your help.

  31. I am trying to hook up an aftermarket pioneer into a 2002 silverado c1500. I cant seem to locate a proper diagram. Any help would be great

  32. hi,, i have an 03 silverado with bose factory system, there was an after market amp and subs installed, currently there is power to the amp and subs but none of the factory speakers are on,,,ive checked some fuses and some wiring, back of the deck there is an orange wire not connected in the harness clip, i dont know if its needed? is there a factory amp or something messing stuff up as well? which wires in the harness are for the factory speakers? please help

    1. Warren, your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado has a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Make sure your amplifier turn on wire is wired correctly. Hope this points you in the right direction. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo installation.

  33. I have an 03 3/4 ton silverado with bose. i’m running a kenwood aftermarket head unit. Everything works great other than i’m needing some help with getting the dimmer on my head unit to work. it has an orange w/ white stripe wire for this purpose, where do i hook it up to on the truck side???

  34. I have a 2000 Silverado with factory radio with single CD and remote cassette. Can a later model GM in-dash radio with 6 CD changer be retrofitted to this model?

  35. Hey, i have a 2003 Chevrolet silverado with the bose system. I was thinking about getting an indash unit but the guy at the audio store in my town said it would be close to $100 just for the adapter? Can anyone give me a price range? THanks

  36. I have a 2000 tahoe I hooked up my pyle 8in indash monitor all the bells and whistles work just fine but no sound comes out of the speakers it was one time when they did play for about 5 mins and then they cut off how do i get constant sound out of my speakers from the indash I was told to splice the remote with a blue and white wire on the factory harness but after reading your diagram would i come out better splicing with the pink wire instead im confused any advice is appreciated at this point

    1. 2001Tahoe, technically you could connect your 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe is on and off whenever your 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your install.

  37. I am in the process of putting an aftermarket stereo in my truck (2003 Chevy Silverado)… I have spliced all the wires and have connected all available wires (speakers, 12 v Power *large orange wire and the ground) However I have no idea what the smaller orange wire does. What does it do and where should in be connected… My truck does not have a red or blue wire for Illumination? Kinda lost, and I need help ASAP

  38. I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 and was wanting to put a new amp in along with new door speakers and maybe later a sub. I still want to keep the stock head unit, but how would i wire the new amp to the factory head unit, and would i need bigger gauge wires? The wiring guide would be greatly appreciated, along with some helpful advice…if it’s not too much trouble. Thanks a ton you guys

    1. Mitch, it does take a good amount of stereo installation knowledge to install an aftermarket amp to your factory 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. What we can tell you is what you will need. Most late model vehicles do not have rca outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter.

In terms of larger speaker wire, you will need to upgrade the speaker wiring thickness depending on the power output of your aftermarket amp and how far away the speaker are from the amplifier. The farther away the speakers are from the amplifier, the thicker gauge wire you will need. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  39. what is the best way to connect a RCA line out converter to get the best base for a 2003 silverado with a stock factory stereo and factory bose audio system

    1. Aaron, when splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you have never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  40. I have an ’04 Avalanche that has a Bose system, but recently the Factory radio went out. Now I have a NON-Bose factory radio and can’t seem to get any sound from the speakers. So my question is what wire do I need to tap to get the Bose system to turn on?

    1. Trevor… i had this same problem… double check that the harness is fully clipped into the back of the deck if it isn’t there is your problem make sure the clip snaps into place. Good luck

  41. I have a 2003 Silverado 1500. Just put in a new pioneer head unit and sound was working.
I put in two new front kappa door speakers and they work fine, but sometimes when
I am driving the speakers cut out and the unit stays on. I have to turn the car off then turn it on
before the speakers kick back on. And all four speakers turn off not just the front ones. There is not after-market subs or amps hooked up. I checked the wiring for the speakers and nothing is touching or anything. Im so confused about what to do.

  42. Trying to install new Pioneer head unit into 03 Avalanche. Was offered advice by someone that I need a “interface module” in addition to the wiring harness I already bought. This is for the door chimes and other not sure what else. Do i really need this? Thanks.

  43. Love your site. I am about to buy the Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter This basically makes it so i can have my amp hooked up to my factory stereo (my vehicle is a 2003 Chevy Silverado with Bose and Onstar) and what wires will i have to mess with. I have knowledge with car audio electronics and wiring but i want to make sure i do it correctly.

    1. Chet, when splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, use the either the right rear speaker wires or the left rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado amp installation.

  44. I have a 2001 Silverado. I would like to hook up an MP3 player into the AUX input the detached cassette head is currently in. Can this be done?

  45. Hey i have a 2003 silverado 1500 and i want to put a sub in. Does the stock radio have the sub pickups or do i need to put an aftermarket radio in?

    1. Ethan, yes it is possible to add a subwoofer and an amplifier to the factory radio. It does take some wiring knowledge and installation know-how. You would require an aftermarket amplifier, amplifier wiring, subwoofer and a speaker to rca line out converter.

Good luck with your subwoofer and amp installation.

  46. Hey I have a quick question after installing a cd player in a 93 Chevy Silverado is it possible to use the stock amp and radio unit so it would still have the functional clock and everything?

  47. What is the best way to hook up the switched power wire on a 2003 Silverado. It says there is no switched power wire on the harness, to run one to the fuse box for switched power. Is this true? If so, what fuse location is best?

    1. Ray, run a wire from the back of your radio to your ignition switch harness located in the steering column and tap the orange wire for switch power. Hope this helps. Good luck with your radio install.

  48. I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado. I would like to install an XM unit. Did Chevrolet offer an XM ready radio for this vehicle? If not, do you have a radio wiring diagram for this year truck, so that I can install an aftermarket unit using the original harnesses? Thank you.

  49. i am installing an aftermarket sony in my 2003 silverado and have speakers and ground hooked up. when i hook the power up it stays on constantly even with the ignition off. how do i fix this?

    1. Shannon, it sounds like you may have hooked up your switched accessory wire off your radio to the battery constant wire on your car. The battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The accessory switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your car is on. Check your wiring and make sure the correct radio wires are hooked up to the correct wires on your factory harness. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  50. just installed an aftermarket pioneer radio into a 03 grand am gt. Did not use a wireharness just splicing. All the speaker wires and power wires are where they need to go to, but I am still not getting any sound. I heard that the pink amp trigger wire needs to be hooked up, but no one knows where to. There are no blown fuses in the car. Just completly stumped. Does anyone know how to fix the problem or knows what I might be doing wrong other then getting it professionally done.

  53. I just finished installing my new stereo in my 2003 Chevy Silverado and was about to install my amp for my sub but im not sure how run the power cable for the amp to the battery, which is the best way to run the wire? Is there another way to power the amp that im unaware of?

    1. John, most installers will run the power cable from the battery, through the firewall, under the carpet (near the door sill) and to your amplifier location for hook up. Just make sure you zip tie the cable down so it doesn’t move. Also, make sure when you run the cable through the firewall that you use a rubber grommet to protect the power cable from rubbing on any bare metal. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  56. i have a 2003 silverado 1500 and im tryin to get my aftermarket amp to turn on when the factory radio turns on. i dont have a pink wire so which wire do i splice the remote to?

    1. Josh, technically you could connect your amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever the car is on and off whenever your car is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
