When connecting a wiring harness to the factory wiring harness to an aftermarket stereo, where do I connect the power wire that will allow the stereo to turn on and off with the ignition?

Nathan, run a primary wire to the steering column and use the brown/green wire in the ignition switch harness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2008 Saturn Astra stereo installation.

I have a 2008 saturn astra and the only thing I want is an auxiliary for my mp3 player. Do I have to change the whole stereo out just to get that option. I tried the fm transmitter and it doesn’t work very well.

My car radio gets a lot of static on the AM side when the ignition is on. As soon as the ignition is off the static goes away. The stereo is installed with an aftermarket wiring harness. What could be causing this?

Shawna, you will need an automotive auxiliary input adapter. This adapter will allow you to input any mp3 player or portable music player into your factory radio. This is the easiest and most cost effective way to add an audio input into your factory stereo. Here is the adapter you will need:

Just got a 2008 Saturn Astra and I have a head unit and amp and subs and want to install it… I don’t think I can though and still have all the factory stuff still work?

Jason, yes you can hook up your an amplifier and subwoofer to your stock stereo. You will need some aftermarket electronics to hook up a subwoofer to your 2008 Saturn Astra factory stereo. You will need five components:

    1. Car Subwoofer
    2. Car Subwoofer Box to house your car subwoofer.
    3. Car Audio Amplifier that matches your subwoofer power needs and ohm rating.
    4. Car Amplifier Wiring Kit that can handle the power needs of your amplifier.
    5. RCA Line Out Converter to feed an audio signal from your factory radio to your aftermarket amplifier.

First run all your amplifier power from your car battery to where you plan on mounting your amplifier. Next, run your ground wire from your grounding point to your amplifier. Wire up the RCA Line Out Converter to the rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. Next, connect one end of your RCA jacks to the Line Out Converter and the other end of the RCA jacks to your amplifier. This will provide an audio signal to your after market amp. Lastly, connect your subwoofer to your after market amplifier using the speaker wire in the amplifier wiring kit. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2008 Saturn Astra amplifier and subwoofer installation.

I was told there may some issues with on board diagnostics if I remove the stock stereo from my 2008 Saturn Astra. It has been suggested that I relocate the stock unit somewhere else in the car. Any truth to this? Anyone know?
