As most people who’ve tried know, modding the factory stereo on the 2006 is a pain. And most Ipod wire harness’ don’t exactly help you locate an easy power source. Thanks so much for the page, tapping into the harness instead of going through the manual forever looking for a power source just saved me my morning. My wife is now Ipod happy with a factory looking install… so glad I didn’t mangle anything.
    Thanks again!

I just bought a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT and was wondering if there is a way to mod the factory stereo and somehow input the audio from a MP3 player directly to the stereo? Thanks in advance.

J.D., we suggest you purchase an automotive auxiliary input adapter. This adapter will allow you to input any Apple iPod, mp3 player or portable music player into your factory radio. This is the easiest and most cost effective way to add an audio input into your factory stereo. Here is the adapter you will need:

Caleb, yes you can hook up your an amplifier and subwoofer to your stock stereo. You will need some aftermarket electronics to hook up a subwoofer to your 2006 Subaru Legacy GT factory stereo. You will need five components:

    1. Aftermarket Car Stereo
    2. Radio Dash Kit for 2006 Subaru Legacy GT
    3. Car Subwoofer
    4. Car Subwoofer Box to house your car subwoofer.
    5. Car Audio Amplifier that matches your subwoofer power needs and ohm rating.
    6. Car Amplifier Wiring Kit that can handle the power needs of your amplifier.

If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2006 Subaru Legacy GT amplifier and subwoofer installation.
