I have a 2005 pontiac sunfire that i want to put in a aftermarket radio. do i need to buy any special wire adapter or anything? anyone know?
Snotty, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. Double check that your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire amp turn on wire is connected. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire stereo installation.
I have wired a Dual XD 1228 into my 2005 Pontiac Sunfire and I have no sound. I have power, the CD player is playing, the iPOD is playing while hooked up to the AUX port but I have no sound. I have reset the stereo thinking it’s the stereo unit, but no result. I’m lost. No idea why I can’t get sound. Have double and triple checked speakers and I think they are correct. I don’t know. Anyone???
Joshua, connect your red ignition switch wire to the yellow wire on your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire factory stereo wire harness. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire stereo installation.
I am putting in a after market radio in my 2005 pontiac sunfire and I have all of the wires hooked up and the radio is not turning on. Where should I hook up the (red) ignition switch wire?
Malcolm, run a primary wire from the back of your radio to your steering column and use the orange wire in the ignition switch harness. This orange wire will provide a switched power source for your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire stereo. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Pontiac Sunfire stereo installation.
you said there’s no acc. where & how do i find it ?
i have two orange wires left over. what are they for?
Bob, thanks for the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire stereo wiring information contribution!
what is the purple wire for and the black one also?
@Tony
The second black wire is actually a really really dark gray. It should be the left front speaker (-) wire. Also, there is no ACC coming off the set of wires if you’ve removed the harness, and you’ll have to wire it to the fuse, which I’m still figuring out (haven’t figured out how to get to that area yet). According to my dad, that purple line is probably the power antenna trigger, which they seem to have left in there even though the car doesn’t have a power antenna. The evidence for this is that it stays low v, then jumps to around 3-5v when the car is turned on or into ACC mode, then immediately drops back down to low v. And by low, I mean my digital multimeter measures it as <1v on the 2v setting.
So what would the purple wire be for?
it could be a dead short
I’m putting an after market radio in my 2005 Pontiac Sunfire and when I’m wiring it there are two wires that aren’t listed. They are colors purple and another black wire. I have it wired up to the right place (i think) but when i turn the key the radio does come on. I checked the fuse and checked the connection with a volt meter its reading 12.3V, I don’t know what the problem is with it could someone help me?
I have a cluster going on ;) My right front and both rear speakers were not working; someone told me there was something “blown” in the stereo; I purchased a new stereo, the person installing the stereo pulled all the wires out of the wire harness (attached to the car as he was going to wire the new stereo the “old school” way (he was trying to save me $100 on the new harness), the right front and back speakers still did not work with the new stereo, it wasn’t the stereo, any clue as to why? Also, because the person had to put the wires back in the harness and did not place them correctly, my dash lights are now not working. Anybody have a copy of the stereo wireharness and placement of the wires and also any idea why the right and rear speakers may have stopped working? Can anybody assist? I know, you don’t even have to say it………….I really hate taking it to the dealer as I have recently been flooded by Ike and am in total disrepair, this gal just wants some decent music while she is trying to get her life back together. Thanks to anybody that can help me. It is much appreciated….
