What wire do you use in a 2005 jeep grand cherokee on the Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire. I have tried to hook up an aftermarket radio. but ther is only constant power nothing that hook up to the accessory switch

i am having this same problem my after market stereo will not shut off when the car is shut off, anyone have any soulutions? i have been told to install a toggle/kill switch, or run a wire to the ignition fuse- these are things i do not want to do, i would like the right way to do it

  • Reply ModifiedLife September 22, 2008 at 3:00 pm

Dustin, run a wire to your steering column and tap the violet/brown wire (accessory switched power) in your ignition switch harness. You must use a 560 ohm resistor on that wire because it is the same wire as the second engine starter wire. If you don’t know how to use resistors, run a wire to the fuse box and find a switched power source (power with the key in the ignition AND power off when the key is out AND power off when starting your car). Hope this helps. Good luck.

I’m trying to hook up a clarion indash dvd. All of the wires are matched up correctly, but when it turns on there’s no sound coming out of the speakers. Do i have to bypass the factory amp? if so how do i do that?

  • Reply ModifiedLife December 8, 2008 at 3:08 pm

Jon, your vehicle may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we don’t have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I had bestbuy install a Clarion indash dvd head unit and after 4 visits, they ended up going through 3 wiring harnesses and came to the conclusion to bypass the factory amp in order to get sound.

i have 06 stock grand cherokee putting amp but cant find a switch to usefor the remote wire. but fuse box dont work.. so i need help

  • Reply ModifiedLife August 5, 2010 at 3:39 pm

MTXphanatic, the radio harness does not provide a switched power source. Run a wire to the steering column and use the brown wire (accessory wire) in the ignition switch harness. Technically you could connect your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee amplifier turn on wire to this brown wire (accessory wire). That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is on and off whenever your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee amplifier install.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and i am want to put an after market amp in. is there an amp input?

  • Reply ModifiedLife December 7, 2010 at 2:45 am

Nicholas, most late model vehicles do not have RCA outputs on the factory radio to feed an audio signal to your aftermarket amplifier. You would have to install a line out converter to supply an audio output. Here is the Line-Out Converter you need:

Scosche 2-Channel Speaker to RCA Line Out Converter

When splicing in the RCA Line Out Converter, tap your factory rear speaker wires to get a full range audio source. We suggest you invest in some solid wire taps that wont come loose. These wire tap connectors will allow you to tap into wires without cutting and installs in seconds by hand with no crimping or tools required. If you’ve never installed car audio before, we advise you to take your car to an experienced mobile audio installer. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee amplifier installation.

Like Denver asked. How do you get the aftermarket indash player to stay on after the key is in the off position and turn off after door is opened like the factory radio???

  • Reply Jake February 2, 2011 at 6:10 pm

I have an aftermarket radio that I’m trying to put in. I have the same problem that someone else has, no sound comes out. The tech support from Metra says its because I have the amp which I didn’t even know about. Where is the amp and how would I bypass it so I don’t have to spend $80 on this converter they said I need to buy.

  • Reply ModifiedLife February 7, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Jake, you will need to bypass the factory amplifier:

I am installing a amp & sub in my 05 grand cherokee, where is a good place to run my power wire thru the fire wall an also where should i ground the amp in the back??

  • Reply ModifiedLife March 29, 2011 at 10:47 pm

Damien, most vehicles have a factory hole with a rubber or plastic grommet at the firewall. This is usually the standard place to run a power wire through the firewall. If one of these holes are not available or not large enough, a hole will have to be drilled to accommodate your power wire. Choose something on the engine side of the firewall as reference and try to match it up on the interior side of the firewall. This will make sure you do not drill through anything important. Then drill a hole somewhere near or beside your reference point. Also, the best place to ground your amplifier would be on the bare metal of the chassis of your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Most installers find a factory bolt and use that location for a ground. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee amplifier installation.
