I want to install an aftermarket stereo in my 2005 mailibu classic. I have looked for a harness adapter but cannot find one, everything is for a malibu and I have read where it is different wiring than a classic. Can anyone tell me where i can get the wire ID so i can wire this stereo?
2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx — AM/FM Radio with 6CD Changer and XM Radio Capable. Intermittently lose left front and rear channel, but only in XM mode. Radio and CD modes fine. Bump sometimes returns audio when lost. Checked XM roof antenna connection, OK. Pulled radio and checked XM antenna connection, OK. Does the XM have it’s own wiring to speakers? Connector had multiple wires, but I failed to record colors… Wiring appears to run to doors through harnesses on each side of front dash panel. Odd that intermittent loss of left side audio condition only present in XM mode. Any thoughts on cause and possible fix? Do you have a wiring diagram for this particular GM radio? Thank you for any thoughts or assistance you can provide. –Will
Tabitha, most late model vehicles do not have aux input on the back of the factory car radio. You will need an automotive aux input adapter. This adapter will allow you to input any Apple iPod, portable music player or mp3 player into your factory car stereo. This is the easiest and most cost effective way to add an audio input into your factory car stereo. Here is the adapter you will need:

I have a 2005 Chevy Malibu Maxx with the stock radio in it, and I was wondering if I took my car apart to get to the back of the radio, if there would be a place to plug in an auxiliary cord so I can plug my phone into it and listen to the music I have on it.
Brandon, we suggest you purchase an automotive auxiliary input adapter. This adapter will allow you to input any Apple iPod, mp3 player or portable music player into your factory radio. Is there anyway I can hardwire a line for a mp3 player?
Wheatlite, thanks for the 2005 Chevrolet Malibu amplifier turn on wire information contribution!
If you have power to everything but no sound from your speakers more than likely you have a factory amp installed in the vehicle. you need to hook up the power wire to the factory amp and it will probably fix your problem.
Cameron, i also had the same problem with my 2005 malibu classic, i also noticed that when my car was turned on and not running, all of my warning lights and bells went off and had no power to my engine. this could probably be from the 12v switched power that should be ran to the pink wire in the ignition column. as for the speakers i could not find a solution to that problem. possibly consider just running and installing your aftermarket deck seprately from your factory stereo, then you can keep your milage info. etc. too =) sorry i couldnt be much help
JCup, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this points you in the right direction. Good luck with your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu stereo installation.
we were installing a new cd player in a 2005 malibu maxx and after getting everything hooked up there was no sound to the speakers?
Cameron, use the pink wire in the ignition switch harness in your steering column. Hope this helps. Good luck with your radio installation.
WHERE CAN I FIND THE RADIO SWITCHED 12V+ WIRE
Jimmy, technically you could connect your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu is on and off whenever your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
