how do you remove the radio from an 2004 Jetta GLI?
Bill, you would require Volkswagen Radio Removal Tools (pictured below) to remove your factory radio. If you look closely at your radio, there are small slits at each corner of your radio. These tools are slipped into those slits to release the radio. The radio then slides right out. Hope this helps. Good luck.
my question is i have 2 red/whit wires and no yellow red wire. both have constant power so the radio will not turn off with the car. i also have a power drain issue when the radio is hooked up, the radio was off all night but the battery was dead in the morning. i un-hooked the radio and it was fine, no drain. do i have to find a switch wire? and would that help my drain issue?
Jeff, some Volkswagen owners wire their switched radio wire to the fuse box or ignition switch harness. You should be able to find a switched power source at both locations. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Hello i have a 2004 VW Jetta GLS 1.8T. It does not have the monsoon system in it. Umm i would like to know how to remove the radio so i can install an after market radio. If possible pictures describing the removal will be helpful.

I have a 2004 Jetta GL with a Clarion Premium VI radio system (model PU-2354A). I was gone for a month and the battery died. Somehow, this turned the whole stereo system off. No power at all. I am thinking it is a blown fuse, but all fuses in the fuse box are OK. I heard that there are fuses behind the radio, so I have now pulled it out, but can find no obvious fuse. Am I on the right track? If so, what am I looking for now? If not, what would be another cause for the whole stereo not working? If need be, I could post pictures.
Ryan, its sounds like your radio may be in safe mode or anti-theft mode. If your Volkswagen radio loses power at any time, the radio jumps into safe mode and will not function until a code is inputted to unlock it. This function is built into the radio to prevent theft. Radio security codes are usually written in your car manual or given to you when you purchase the vehicle. If you do not have the radio security code, you would have to obtain it from the local Volkswagen dealer. Hope this helps. Good luck.
Man, I wish I knew about those tools three days ago! I took my radio out the hard way, by removing about half of the dashboard panels…
Geoff, we’re glad we could give you some more insight in removing the radio from a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta.
The radio in my 1994 Jetta lll just stoped working for no reason. Where can I find a radio to replace it. It doesnot even light up or anything. I have the code for it but it won’t turn on. If I remove it how can I test it.
Robert, it sounds like you blew out a fuse or two. Double check ALL your fuses and you will probably find a blown fuse somewhere. Sometimes when you short out your radio fuse, other fuses may also blow out. Hope this helps. Good luck.
