I have a chevy 1500 2003 and the stereo stopped working while a cd was in it. The display actually froze up and remains on even when the car is off… How do I turn it off????

  • Reply ModifiedLife January 11, 2009 at 3:20 pm

Rocko, the easiest way to turn off your radio when you can’t do it manually, would be to pull the radio fuse. Look in your fuse box or look in your manual for a fuse box diagram and remove the fuse that provides power to your radio. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi, I have a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado c1500 series and I am installing a new cd player. I cut the original wires and blew some fuses. Now after reconnecting and replacing the fuses for the radio I am still unable to even get the original radio working. Is there any way I can fix the problem on my own? Should I just take it to a professional? Thank you

  • Reply ModifiedLife February 10, 2009 at 12:02 am

Francisco, if you’re not familiar with installing car radios then our advice is to take your car to an experienced installer. It sounds like your car will need some troubleshooting to figure out what you blew out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Bruce, your factory amplifier may be faulty or the audio output from your radio is faulty. We suggest you take your car to an experienced audio installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a 2003 Silverado which is going to receive an in dash DVD. I’ve installed radios all my life and I’m a little bothered that GM is now requiring a $100 wiring harness. I have put a harness on and would really be appreciative if someone knew what I can do to by pass this issue. I have heard it has been done. Thanks for any suggestions. Justin

im installing a sony cd player in an 2003 chevrolet silverado. I went to a local audio shop and got the harness. The only thing is the new radio/cd player doesnt work. I put the factory radio in and it works fine. Does anyone know what i need to do?

  • Reply ModifiedLife January 6, 2012 at 3:28 pm

Tina, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. Double check that your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado amp turn on wire is connected. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo installation.

Zach, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are in working order, your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. Double check that your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado amplifier turn on wire is connected. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Silverado stereo installation.
