I installed an aftermarket stereo for my daughter and her 2003 Chevy Malibu. Everything is been working fine but she notice she has no more cruise control, is there something I left out?
Adam, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu may have a factory amp that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. Double check that your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu amp turn on wire is connected. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu stereo installation.
I followed this 2003 Chevrolet Malibu wiring diagram and wired in my new head unit and it powers up but i dont get any sound out of the speakers except a second after some wires touch. I NEED HELP
My 2003 Chevy Malibu radio has suddenly stop working. Actually, the unit seems to work ok, in all mode (CD/AM/FM), but nothing comes out of the speakers! I went around a corner and the volume control started acting up, followed by cracking of the speakers and now nothing! I was trying to locate the Amplifier, but so far, no luck! Any Ideas/suggestions/Tips? Thanks
I just checked behind the radio and it appears that there are two orange wires coming from the ignition harness. Which one should I use to connect my accessory wire? I have a picture if it would help. Thanks again for your help.
Ben, run a primary wire from the back of your radio to your steering column and use the orange wire in the ignition switch harness. This orange wire will provide a switched power source for your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu stereo. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu stereo installation.
I just wired up my 2003 Chevy Malibu for a Pioneer AVIC-D3. I used the wiring diagram to make sure that the the pins in the aftermarket harness matched up with the correct wires on the car harness. I’ve read several posts about adding a 12V accessory wire and running it to the fuse box. I’ve noticed several issues with trying to link the wire to the fuses on either the driver or passenger side. When I link it to a “10” fuse on the passenger side the unit turns on with the car but the car will not stay running when I start it. When I link the wire to any of the accessory fuses on the driver side the gas gauge does not work when the car is on or running but the car does stay on after it’s started. Does anybody know what I should do about this? I’m pretty sure everything is wired correctly. The illumination is working and the speakers are working no problem. I have grounded the unit with a screw in the chasis. Thanks for your help
Tim, we suggest you get a car aux input adapter. This adapter will allow you to input any Apple iPod, mp3 player or portable music player into your factory stereo. This is the most cost effective and easiest way to add a car audio input into your factory radio. Here is the adapter you will need:

I have a 2000 chevy Malibu with the original factory CD stereo and a separate but original “auxiliary external tape player”. I was trying to figure out what wires in the harness would be the audio so I could replace the “auxiliary external tape player” and use its wiring harness to hook up a jack for an ipod/Mp3 player. I can take a pic if u think it might help. Any ideas?
I have a 2003 Malibu with a pioneer premiere head unit and speakers all the way around. i installed with new wiring harness and stereo worked great for a couple months now the speakers dont play audio but the head unit plays and the speakers pop when they initially get power. i dont have an amplifier in the trunk that i could find. i cant figure this out for the life of me, i tried a new ground at first and it fixed it for a few days now im back where i started. any help is greatly appreciated.
I have two Black wires. One with a white strip, and one without. Which one is the Ground wire? I have also notice that there are no two yellow wires. So which one is the 12v+ Accessory Switch? I saw that someone said it was purple, but that isn’t a 12v+????
Jason, you have to ground your aftermarket radio to the chassis (vehicle frame) when you don’t have a factory ground wire in the stereo wire harness. Simply ground your wire to the chassis (look below).
1. Find some bare metal on your vehicle (somewhere near your factory radio harness). Make sure this bare metal touches the chassis (frame) of the vehicle.
2. Connect a ring terminal to the black wire coming off your aftermarket radio harness.
3. Use a self tapping screw to attach the black wire with ring terminal to the bare metal.
Hope this helps. Good luck with grounding your car stereo.

What wires are used to rig an aux input in chevy Malibu 03? Thanks!
Sometimes my rear speakers cut in and out while the stereo is on. Sometimes, they never work in the first place. How can I fix this without hiring a mechanic or spending a lot of money? I think it just may be a small wire issue where they are twisted or something. Thanks for your help! :)
Bobby, thanks for the 2003 Chevrolet Malibu wiring information contribution!
dude you gotta run a wire to your fuse box on side of drivers door and slip the wire in with a fuse to get power to your radio. i have a 2002 malibu and thats what i had to do with my stereo. just run a 16 guage red wire from radio to fuse box for power to stereo
DJ, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. Hey I have a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu and I’m trying to put a Panasonic cqc3400u and I can’t get power ?
Paul, technically you could connect your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu is on and off whenever your 2003 Chevrolet Malibu is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your amplifier install.

I have a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu. I used this guide to install a new head unit, but found a correction: The “Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire” is purple in my car instead of yellow. Not sure if this applies to all Malibus, but it’s how my car is at least.
