  1. Gents, The dial light or back light gets energized from a different wire than the actual radio power. It is controlled by the ignition key. Try this: with the car running, push the ignition key all the way into the steering column, radio light will go on, pull the key outward and the light will go out! Sounds crazy but it is true. Hal

  2. Fred, the back light on your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser radio may be faulty. It seems to be a common problem on many vehicles. Our advise is that you either take your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser stereo to a qualified repair shop and have them repair the back light – or – you replace your factory radio with an After Market Radio. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser stereo troubleshooting.

  3. Our 2001 PT Cruiser radio intermittently shows the dial light. Most of the time it stays off. Because of this we can’t see the clock or the radio station. The lights that come on with the dash lights are fine. I have taken the radio out and checked that the cables are plugged in good and wiggling the wires doesn’t affect it. Otherwise the radio works fine. Any ideas?
