I’m installing an amp with sub into a stock factory stereo BMW 330i (BMW Business CD, with in-trunk 6CD changer). I got a Scosche LOC-80 from Crutchfield to tap into the stock stereo rear speaker wires for the low-level RCA jacks to the amp. I was wondering which wire on the stock stereo to hook the blue control wire to the amp (for turning on the amp). From the above descriptions, it looks like the “Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Violet/White”. Is that the correct one? Thanks.

  2. Joseph, technically you could connect your 2001 BMW 330i amplifier turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire. That way your amplifier is on whenever your 2001 BMW 330i is on and off whenever your 2001 BMW 330i is off. Just make sure to run an in-line fuse holder with a 1-amp fuse on the amplifier turn on wire. Hope this helps. Good luck with your amplifier install.

  3. I’m installing 2 alpine type r spr-17c into the rear deck. Do you think I need an additional amp to power these speakers? Also I don’t know how to mount them because the mount they gave me doesn’t fit. Could you help me? Thanks

  4. Kenny, it is always a good idea to use an aftermarket amp to power after market speakers because your factory stereo will not be able to provide the necessary power. Under powering and over powering speakers can damage any set of speakers so make sure you get an amplifier that can provide the right amount of power. As far as mounting your Alpine SPR-17C speakers, you may have to custom mount them if they don’t fit in the factory speaker openings. Our advice is to take them to an experienced mobile audio installer and have them mount your speakers. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 2001 BMW 330i speaker and amplifier installation.

  5. Im hooking up a line converter to so I can instal an amp I just recently replaced my two rear 5 1/4″ speakers in my 2001 BMW 330i with 6 1/2″ kicker speakers but I’m not sure which wires are positive and negative going to speaker. each one has a solid brown wire going to it and the rear passenger side has a solid blue. the driver side has a yellow. is brown my negative? anyone?
