Dave, the battery constant always sends power to the radio to save your radio stations and other audio settings. The ignition switched wire sends power to your radio only when the key is in the ignition and your car is on. Both wires are necessary when installing a car radio. Hope this helps. Good luck with your stereo installation.

I am installing radio in a 2000 Accord. The wiring diagram shows two hot wires. One constanct and one switched. Why? Do I need to wire this way, or do I only use one of the two?

My 2000 Honda Accord has a factory cassette player with CD changer potential (buttons) but it doesn't have any legacy connectors. Anybody know the simple/cheap way to rig some RCA jacks into the back so I can plug in my iPod?

Hi, I have a question about a cd player wiring. I just wired a cd player into my 2000 honda accord but I did not connect the dimmer wires to the cd player. Everything works fine except the lights in my dash it used to work before i hooked up the cd player but now it doesn't. Could there be a connection problem between the cd player and my dash board lights or maybe the dimmer wire is the cause because the lights don't work if you can help me out on this question please. thank you.

In reference to comment by Chris on May 17th, 2008, I also installed a cd stereo and have the same issue of no lights for the instrument panel and a/c panel. I did not see any blown fuses. Anybody else run into this? Thanks.

I just recently installed an aftermarket cd player as well and I am having the same issues as Chris, having two wires(ILLUMINATION-org and DIMMER-org/wht) remaining. The cd player works fine but I also don't have any dash lights and my park lights remain on unless I turn the car off. I have checked all the connections and fuses and everything is correct. I did some other researcha and I found out that I could have a faulty IGNITION SWITCH, is this true? You help would be greatly appreciated for I have found no one who could give me a legitimate solution.

Thanks!

Chris, dimmer or illumination wires are not necessary to install a radio. They are only used to dim the radio display when your parking lights are on because its night time and brighten the radio display when your parking lights are off because its daytime. Firstly, double check all your radio connections and make sure they are correct. Secondly, check that your fuses are not blown which may be why you don't have any lights in the instrument panel. Lastly, make sure you don't have any loose or exposed wires that may cause a short. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have recently installed a Panasonic cd deck into my accord. I purchased a harness and followed the color codes. Everything works well and I was left with a couple wires (the illuminator, and dimmer) from the car with nowhere to connect on the stereo. Now I have no dimmer control or lights in the instrument panel. Where do I put these wires to complete the circuit? Or do I? I dont think the deck I installed has dimmer control as all the wires from the deck are used. Thanks

Colby,

The 2000 Honda Accord does not have a factory remote turn on wire so you have to use a different switched wire.

Technically, you could connect your remote turn on wire to the radio switched 12v+ wire (white/red). That way your amplifier is on whenever the car is on and off your amplifier when your car is off. Just make sure to run an in-line 1-amp fuse on the remote turn on.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.
