Hi, I am a new owner of a 1999 mercury cougar in beautiful condition. the only problem is that the relay for the alarm system/ power locks and all noted above in the schematics is fried. I’ve had a hell of a time trying to get a new relay, and quite frankly, I doubt i will be able to find one. I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know of a place to find the relay (preferably on the internet as i am Canadian and this is an American site) or even let me know of a relay that will work as a replacement from another ford/mercury model. Thanks.

My 1994 Mercury Cougar is not cranking. I have to unlock the doors with the remote first, then crank it- only problem is the remote is not unlocking the doors. I have tried a new battery in the remote, still no luck. If anyone could help me figure out how to disable the system to make it crank or anything that could help, I would definitely appreciate it. Kinda stranded right now.

Kelly, it sounds like your 1994 Mercury Cougar remote has either has lost its programming to the car alarm – OR – your remote is faulty. As much as we would like to help you, different alarm systems have different procedures to re-program the remote. Our advise is to take your car to a qualified alarm installer and have them troubleshoot your problem. It shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes or so to find the problem. Hope this helps. Good luck with troubleshooting your 1994 Mercury Cougar.

Is there anyway to disconnect the factory alarm on the 1999 mercury cougar, 5-speed. Vehicle won’t start. I was advised that it may be the alarm causing the issue. anyone?

Brandi, as much as we would like to help you, not all car alarms are installed the same way. Different brands and different setups will call for different wiring. Our advice is to take your car to a qualified alarm installer and ask them to disarm the alarm because it does take some wiring knowledge and experience to know what to do. Hope this helps. Good luck on your 1999 Mercury Cougar alarm troubleshooting.
