I recently installed a Pioneer deck into my 1998 Toyota 4Runner using a wire harness purchased from Radio Shack and now my dash lights won't come on. I called Radio Shack and they told me to connect the orange wire with a white stripe to the red ignition wire and this hasn't solved the problem. All it caused was to feed 12V back through the wiring system. Luckily no fuses were blown that I can tell. Is there a hidden secret that I don't know about?

you will need to remove the factory amp(small silver box located behind the deck) and hook up the new deck to the factory harness BEHIND the amp.

John, your Toyota 4runner may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

i tried to install a new radio in my 4runner and got the radio to work bbut no sound will come through the speakers. I used trial and error to figure out the colors and there was some sound coming out for a while. Is it possible that i screwed the speakers up by hooking them up wrong?? Please help

C, first check your clarion radio manual. It'll probably be able to tell you want "amp guard" means. If you don't have the manual, our best guess is that the radio is detecting a short somewhere between your radio and amplifier. Double check all your wiring and make sure no wires are exposed or touching bare metal. Hope this helps. Good luck.
