Neil, your 1998 Ford Contour may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car stereo amplifier trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier. Unfortunately, we do not have this information but maybe someone from the Modified Life community can post that information here. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a ’98 Contour se with a non-stock radio (Pyle). I would like to slide it out to connect aux cables and I have been having trouble getting it to slide out. The radio is in a DIN cage, there was a screw underneath which I removed. But it still won’t come out, is there another clip or something I need to remove.

Jacob, first double check ALL your fuses and make sure ALL your fuses are good. You can do this by using an Automotive Fuse Tester and making sure all of your fuses are not blown. If all of your fuses are good, your 1998 Ford Contour may have a factory amplifier that needs to be turned on by your after market radio. The car radio amp trigger wire has to be wired up to turn on your factory amplifier to output sound from your speakers. If you would like to bypass your factory amplifier, you will need remove the amplifier and re-wire all the speakers. Hope this helps. Good luck with your 1998 Ford Contour radio installation.
