  1. I have a Jett 1998, I had the same problem. I endup paying 275.00 to fix the problem. The shop said it had a wiring problem inside the dashboard.

  2. One other idea. You could connect full-time power to the wire that’s supposed to have switched power. (Run a wire from the fuse panel or patch into the constant 12V line.) This would mean your radio could be operated with the ignition switch off. I don’t imagine there’s much if any extra battery drain when the radio’s switched off, so it should be pretty harmless. And CHEAP. I think I’m going to to that route.

  3. Sounds like the problem I’m having with my ’97 Passat. Yes, it stands to reason that the switched power is not coming through the wire because your car’s ignition switch is faulty. If that really needs to be replaced, however, I wouldn’t want audio guys to do it… I’d want real mechanics on the job.

  4. Just bought the 97 GLX and am falling in love but the premium audio system with 5 disc CD changer doesn’t even power up. Nothing! Fuses are OK and the local audio shop speculates that it’s an ‘ignition switch’ that communicates with the audio system – and they want $200+ to attempt to fix it. Worth it if it works? Any other ideas??
