Jennie, its hard to say because we aren’t car thieves but what we can say is that most late model cars have immobilizers that are pretty tough to bypass without the proper key. The way most immobilizers work is that the key typically has a transponder or resistor embedded in the head to communicate a specific code to the engine-management system or engine computer. If the specific code from the key matches what the ECU has stored then the engine will start otherwise the car will not start. The only thing we could assume is that if the car thief knew what the specific code was, they would be able to bypass it with some electronics know-how and start the car without the proper key. My son has a 2007 Dodge Charger. It was stolen from our driveway on 8/25/08. The insurance company has denied his claim stating that they felt that he stole his own car. They stated that it has an anti-theft device in it and that it can only be started by the key that is key specifically to his car. The key was in the house and we were all sleep, to include my son. The car was recovered and the glass on the driver’s side window was broken out, the ignition was busted up and his stereo system was removed from the trunk. Is there another way that this car could have been stolen? Please answer soonest, as we need to take addtional action to rectify this matter. Thank you.

Lisa, not all remote starters are installed the same way. Different brands and different setups will call for different wiring. Our advice is to take your car to a qualified alarm installer and ask them to remove the remote starter system because it does take some wiring knowledge and experience to know what to remove and how to return your car back to stock. Josh, the anti-theft device that is installed on your car may be going bad or the person who installed the device didn’t do a good job. Anti-theft devices that disable the starter usually cut into the starter wires on the car to prevent it from starting. Our advice is to take your car to a qualified alarm installer and ask them to remove the anti-theft system because it does take some wiring knowledge and experience. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hello I have a 1997 Dodge Avenger ES, I am the 3rd owner of the vehicle and someone has put an aftermarket security system on the car even though it had the factory keyless entry and security system already on it. It has a chip that plugs in which you can remove when leaving car making it not start without the chip it has Alternative wrote on the chip when the chip is in you have to press the brake to start the vehicle. Now with the chip it is getting harder to start my vehicle you have to press the brake about 20 times and keep turning the key untill it starts. Do you have any idea how to take this thing off or where to find the company who makes this crappy device i’ve looked everywhere.
