  1. In the 1988 Mazda RX7 Convertible, the amp for the 4 headrest speakers is behind the seats where the spare tire is located. The amp for the two door speakers is underneath where the steering wheel is behind the front left speaker. You don’t even want to know how long it took me to find it. The two front speakers plug directly into the stereo. Oh and i have found that I can put a quite large sub-woofer in the back after moving the spare tire to the trunk. It’s pretty sweet.

I have a factory installed Pioneer CD/Cassette/AMFM stereo in my 1988 RX7 convertible. I believe the motor for the CD and Cassette player must be one. Both have stopped working at the same time. Anyone else had this problem? Also, the passenger side door panel speaker is distorting at low frequency. I believe it may me loose. Has anyone taken the door panel off to deal with a speaker issue? Does the speaker cover in the door panel come off without removing the entire door panel?

John, I have a 1988 Mazda RX7 Convertible as well. I don’t know if you’re still wondering about this, but last week I removed my driver’s side door panel to fix my window. The speaker cover in the door panel does not come off, you will need to remove the entire door panel to touch the speaker. If I were you, I’d remove it and check that the membrane is not wrinkled over your speaker.
